Ultrasound-Guided Interventional Procedures in Pain Medicine: A Review of Anatomy, Sonoanatomy, and Procedures: Part VI: Ankle Joint
Abstract: Ultrasound-guided injections in pain medicine are emerging as a popular technique for pain interventions. Ultrasound can be applied for procedures of the ankle joint and surrounding structures. This review describes the anatomy and sonoanatomy of the ankle joint, subtalar joint, and surrounding extra-articular structures relevant for intra-articular injection. Second, it reviews injection techniques and the accuracy and efficacy of these intra-articular ankle injections.

Residual Enoxaparin Activity, Anti-Xa Levels, and Concerns About the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Anticoagulation Guidelines
Abstract: Currently, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) anticoagulation guidelines recommend that before the performance of a neuraxial procedure a minimum of 24 hours should elapse following a treatment dose of enoxaparin (1 mg/kg twice daily or 1.5 mg/kg once daily). The guidelines have since their inception also consistently recommended against the routine use of anti-Xa level monitoring for patients receiving enoxaparin. However, we noted in our clinical practice that anti-Xa levels were frequently still elevated despite patients meeting the time-based recommendation for treatment dose...

Anesthesia and Analgesia Practice Pathway Options for Total Knee Arthroplasty: An Evidence-Based Review by the American and European Societies of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine
Abstract: In 2014, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine in collaboration with the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy convened a group of experts to compare pathways for anesthetic and analgesic management for patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty in North America and Europe and to develop a practice pathway. This review is intended to be an analysis of the current literature to assist individuals and institutions in designing a pathway for total knee arthroplasty that is based on existing evidence and expert recommendation and may be customized according to individual settings.
