Collaborative patient-provider communication and uptake of adolescent vaccines
Conclusion Efficient communication styles were used rarely (≤2% across vaccines) but were highly effective for encouraging meningococcal and HPV vaccination. Intervention studies are needed to confirm that efficient communication approaches increase HPV vaccination among adolescents.

Concomitant Adolescent Vaccination in the U.S., 2007–2012
Conclusions Missed opportunities for concomitant adolescent vaccination persist, particularly for HPV vaccine. Future interventions targeting groups with low rates of concomitant vaccination could improve population-level coverage with recommended vaccines.

Extending and validating a human papillomavirus (HPV) knowledge measure in a national sample of Canadian parents of boys
Publication date: October 2016 Source:Preventive Medicine, Volume 91 Author(s): Samara Perez, Ovidiu Tatar, Remo Ostini, Gilla K. Shapiro, Jo Waller, Gregory Zimet, Zeev Rosberger As the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is now recommended for males, a reliable, comprehensive HPV knowledge measurement tool which addresses issues relevant to males is needed. We aimed to replicate, validate and test the comprehensiveness of an existing general HPV and an HPV vaccination knowledge scale in English and French. We also measured parental HPV knowledge and changes over time. An online questionnaire was administered in February ...

Dispelling the myth: Exploring associations between the HPV vaccine and inconsistent condom use among college students
This study contributes to the increasing evidence that HPV vaccination is not associated with risky sexual behavior. Dispelling this myth is important to facilitate uptake and completion of the HPV vaccine in the U.S.

Cervical cancer screening in women vaccinated against human papillomavirus infection: Recommendations from a consensus conference
Publication date: Available online 25 November 2016 Source:Preventive Medicine Author(s): Paolo Giorgi Rossi, Francesca Carozzi, Antonio Federici, Guglielmo Ronco, Marco Zappa, Silvia Franceschi In Italy, the cohorts of women who were offered Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in 2007/08 will reach the age for cervical cancer (CC) screening from 2017. The simultaneous shift from cytology-based screening to HPV test-based screening gives the opportunity for unprecedented reorganisation of CC prevention. The ONS (National Screening Monitoring Centre) Directive and the GISCi (Italian Group for Cervical Screening) identif...

Factors associated with parents ’ attitudes to the HPV vaccination of their adolescent sons
Conclusions HPV vaccine uptake among male adolescents is suboptimal. Future programs need to address the predictors of uptake by educating parents about the boys’ high susceptibility to infection, the benefits of vaccination, and reduce concerns regarding perceived barriers. Additionally, uptake may be facilitated by encouraging health care provider endorsement, particularly in countries without government-funded immunisation programs.

Franco, Michael Fung-Kee-Fung, Walter Gotlieb, Marie-Hélène Mayrand, Meg McLachlin, Joan Murphy, Gina Ogilvie, Sam Ratnam Since being introduced in the 1940s, cervical cytology – despite its limitations – has had unequivocal success in reducing cervical cancer burden in many countries. However, we now know that infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) is a necessary cause of cervical cancer and there is overwhelming ev...

Parents' willingness to get human papillomavirus vaccination for their adolescent children at a pharmacy
Publication date: Available online 7 February 2017 Source:Preventive Medicine Author(s): William A. Calo, Melissa B. Gilkey, Parth Shah, Macary W. Marciniak, Noel T. Brewer Pharmacies are promising alternative settings for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination because of their accessibility and existing infrastructure for vaccine delivery. We sought to examine parents' willingness to get HPV vaccination for their children at pharmacies. In 2014, we conducted a national, online survey of 1255 parents of 11- to 17-year-old adolescents in the United States. Parents reported whether they would be willing to get HPV vaccine f...

Knowledge, attitude, and experience of cervical cancer and screening among Sub-saharan African female students in a UK University
Conclusion: Female African students from the SSA region have poor knowledge of the disease which influenced their attitude toward screening. More needs to be carried out to increase awareness and uptake of screening within the school environment as university setting provides a viable platform to promote healthy behavior. The cost of implementing two small media interventions to promote HPV vaccination
Conclusion The electronic medium for HPV vaccine education was 23% more costly than the standard low-tech print based approach. The cost difference should be considered relative to the effectiveness of these methods in achieving increases in immunization rates. The cost estimates provide information for cost-effectiveness and budget impact assessments of new HPV immunization intervention programs.
