Procedural Approach to Ultrasound-Guided Geniculate Nerve Blockade for Knee Pain in Patients with OA
Curr Sports Med Rep. 2022 Jun 1;21(6):192-195. doi: 10.1249/JSR.0000000000000965.ABSTRACTUltrasound-guided genicular nerve block can provide excellent pain control for patients with knee OA. This procedure has the advantage of providing sensory blockade with concomitant sparing of motor compromise, which is observed when the femoral and its lateral femoral cutaneous branches are blocked. Once the geniculate nerve of interest is identified, the operator can use ultrasound guidance to surround nerve fascicles with an injectate mixture of anesthetic and corticosteroid, yielding decreased pain sensation at the joint capsule. Does a corticosteroid injection plus exercise or exercise alone add to the effect of patient advice and a heel cup for patients with plantar fasciopathy? A randomised clinical trial
CONCLUSION: No clinically relevant between-group differences were found after 12 weeks. The results indicate that combining a corticosteroid injection with exercise is not superior to exercise or no exercise.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT03804008.PMID:37414460 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2023-106948

Common injections in musculoskeletal medicine.
This article addresses current evidence for corticosteroid injections, and common injection indications and techniques, namely knee, subacromial bursa, glenohumeral joint, lateral epicondyle, de Quervain tenosynovitis, and greater trochanteric bursa injections. Preparation for injections and some evidence for ultrasound guidance are also reviewed. PMID: 24209729 [PubMed - in process]

Platelet rich plasma for chronic tendinopathy
Conclusion Biologic therapies such as AB and PRP injection were moderately effective for treatment of recalcitrant tendinopathy, and PRP appears to be more effective than AB. Further studies comparing these treatments to each other, to other treatment options, and to placebo should be undertaken to better define their clinical utility and indications in the treatment of chronic tendinopathy.

AMSSM scientific statement concerning viscosupplementation injections for knee osteoarthritis: importance for individual patient outcomes
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disabling disease that produces severe morbidity reducing physical activity. Our position statement on treatment of knee OA with viscosupplementation injection (hyaluronic acid, HA) versus steroid (intra-articular corticosteroids, IAS) and placebo (intra-articular placebo, IAP) is based on the evaluation of treatment effect by examining the number of participants within a treatment arm who met the Outcome Measures in Rheumatoid Arthritis Clinical Trials-Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OMERACT-OARSI) criteria, which is different and more relevant than methods used in other reviews whi...

Traditional Chinese Medicine for Refractory Nephrotic Syndrome: Strategies and Promising Treatments.
Authors: Wang XQ, Wang L, Tu YC, Zhang YC Abstract Refractory nephrotic syndrome (RNS) is an immune-related kidney disease with poor clinical outcomes. Standard treatments include corticosteroids as the initial therapy and other immunosuppressants as second-line options. A substantial proportion of patients with RNS are resistant to or dependent on immunosuppressive drugs and often experience unremitting edema and proteinuria, cycles of remission and relapse, and/or serious adverse events due to long-term immunosuppression. Traditional Chinese medicine has a long history of treating complicated kidney diseases and ...
