Refined Multiscale Entropy Analysis of Wrist Pulse for Gender Difference in Traditional Chinese Medicine among Young Individuals
Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2022 Feb 8;2022:7285312. doi: 10.1155/2022/7285312. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTPulse signal analysis plays an important role in promoting the objectification of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Like electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, wrist pulse signals are mainly caused by cardiac activities and are valuable in analyzing cardiac diseases. A large number of studies have reported ECG signals can distinguish gender characteristics of normal healthy subjects using entropy complexity measures, consistently showing more complexity in females than males. No research up to date, however, has bee...

A Randomized, Placebo-controlled, Double-blind Trial to Evaluate Efficacy and Safety of Shen-Yuan-Dan Capsules, A Traditional Chinese Medicine, for Treatment of Peri-procedure Myocardial Injury Following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
CONCLUSION: These findings showed that pretreatment with SYD could safely reduce the incidence rate of PMI in patients with UA undergoing elective PCI. Further study on the effects of SYD and how it can improve adverse cardiovascular events outcomes is needed.PMID:35643381 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2022.102841

What Areas of the Physical Examination are Important in the Pre-participation Physical Examination?
Discussion Participation in organized or non-organized, recreational to elite sports activities can provide excellent recreational and leisure time activities and improve physical and mental health for participants. The Aspen Institute in 2018 reported that more kids are being physically active, more are trying different sports, and multisports play is increasing rather than strict specialization. Unfortunately they note that there is an economic inequality with children from lower-socioeconomic circumstances playing less organized sports. About 70% of children and youth participate in an individual or team sport, but unfo...

Gender differences in the electrocardiogram screening of athletes
Conclusions ECGs of young athletes demonstrate gender-related differences. These differences could be considered in their cardiovascular screening. For the Seattle ECG criteria we advise additional research into the clinical implications of using gender-based cut-off values for the QRS duration in the intraventricular conduction delay criterion.

The diagnostic accuracy of exercise electrocardiography in asymptomatic recreational and competitive athletes
In conclusion, exercise electrocardiography has a low positive predictive value in asymptomatic recreational and competitive athletes, with a false‐positive test result being associated with higher age. Given the relatively high prevalence of false‐positive test results in this population, efforts should be made to develop strategies aimed at identifying false‐positive test results in a simple noninvasive manner.

Cardiovascular Screening of Elite Athletes by Sporting Organizations in Australia: A Survey of Chief Medical Officers
Conclusions: Most sports have a screening policy, with reasonable uniformity of components. All included H&P, and almost all included ECG. Only one sport included an echocardiogram and stress test as a standard (international players only). Promoting the latest ECG interpretation criteria may reduce false-positives and cost. Future work should explore cardiac emergency plans, screening infrastructure, cost, and long-term follow-up.

Awareness and education about cardiovascular events and sport are essential: Results of a French multicenter survey
Conclusion The lack of awareness about cardiovascular events remains significant among sports practitioners. Better education about such risks seems necessary to reduce the rate of accidents in the future.

Assessment of premature ventricular beats in athletes.
CONCLUSION: After this assessment, five athletes were not allowed to practice sport. This study shows the necessity of a thorough cardiological assessment of athletes with ventricular arrhythmia in order to detect underlying heart disease and prevent sudden death in this young apparently healthy population. Results of voluntary cardiovascular examination of elite athletes in Denmark: Proposal for Nordic collaboration
We investigated the cardiovascular status of elite athletes in Denmark, the extent of abnormal cardiac findings – both training related and pathologic – and how participating in cardiac examination was perceived by the athletes. A standardized protocol of questionnaires, physical examination, resting electrocardiogram, and 2D echocardiography was used. In total 1347 elite athletes were invited; 516 athletes (38%) from 30 different sports participated. Results were stored in a web‐based database for future research and long‐term follow‐up. Cardiac pathology was infrequent; eight athletes (1.6%) received a cardiac ...
