Fibromyalgia and Its Clinical Relevance in Renal Transplant Recipients
Recent evidence suggests that fibromyalgia syndrome (FS) is associated with inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. Our aim was to determine the prevalence of FS in renal transplant recipients and to identify possible links between FS and clinical and laboratory parameters.

Evaluation for renal auto-transplantation for multiple renal calculi or loin pain hematuria syndrome
There were 24 patients that underwent evaluation for auto-transplantation of the kidney due to intractable pain. Multiple renal calculi was the etiology for 16 patients, and loin pain hematuria syndrome for 8 patients. The two groups were given the PHQ-9, GAD -7, EQ-5D and the Somatoform Disorders Symptom checklist. The multiple stone group was 68.75% female, 31.25% male, versus the LPHS group which was 100% female. Ages of the two groups were similar, 34.1years old for the MS group, 32.5years old for the LPHS group. The scores on the PHQ-9 were nearly identical, 10.43 for the MS group and 10.38 for the LPHS group. Similar...

Abstract 5579: Medication exposures and subsequent development of Ewing sarcoma: a review of FDA adverse event reports
CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a closer look at medication use and underlying disorders in patients who later developed ESFT. While we found no clear causative association between ESFT and prior use of a single product or drug class, many associated drugs were used to treat immune-related disease, and growth or hormonal disturbances. Further studies are needed to better understand possible immune or neuroendocrine abnormalities that may predispose to the later development of ESFT.canres;75/15_Supplement/5579/table1T1Table: Summary of FAERS reports of medication use prior to Ewing Sarcoma Family of Tumor (ESFT) diagnosis,...

Thrombolysis: A Useful Tool in the Primary PCI Cupboard.
Authors: Schwarz K, Goyal D, Routledge H Abstract A 44-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with central crushing chest pain and dynamic anterior ST elevation on a background of a known left bundle-branch block on her electrocardiogram. Past medical history included insulin-dependent diabetes, asthma, fibromyalgia, and a gradually failing kidney transplant. This case demonstrates the rarely utilized niche role for intracoronary thrombolysis in STEMI treatment in the modern angioplasty era. PMID: 28756427 [PubMed - in process]

The Case | An unusual cause of proteinuria in a kidney transplant recipient
A 49-year-old Black woman with hypertension and kidney failure of unknown etiology underwent deceased-donor kidney transplantation. The donor was a 27-year-old Black man with fibromyalgia and depression who died of lymphocytic myocarditis, per the autopsy report. The donor had terminal creatinine of 0.6 mg/dl, unremarkable urinalysis, a Kidney Donor Profile Index of 23%, positive IgG for Epstein-Barr virus, and otherwise negative routine screening for infectious diseases. The recipient, who had no family history of kidney disease, was maintained on prednisone, tacrolimus, and mycophenolate mofetil.

Gut microbiota in chronic pain: Novel insights into mechanisms and promising therapeutic strategies
Int Immunopharmacol. 2023 Feb;115:109685. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2023.109685. Epub 2023 Jan 24.ABSTRACTChronic pain remains one of the world's most persistent and unsolved clinical challenges that severely affect patients' quality of life. Presently, considering that the mechanisms underlying chronic pain are not fully understood, there is a lack of effective drugs and interventions to treat chronic pain in clinical practice. Therefore, exploring the pathogenic mechanism of chronic pain and establishing potential targets are the keys to treating chronic pain. Substantial evidence has indicated that gut microbiota plays a cr...
