Multicomponent reactions in the synthesis of antiviral compounds
CONCLUSION: Multicomponent reactions can be applied to all the stages of the drug discovery and development process making them very useful in the search for new agents active against emerging (viral) pathogens.PMID:34620058 | DOI:10.2174/0929867328666211007121837

Modeling, mapping and analysis of urban floods in India-a review on geospatial methodologies
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2021 Oct 9. doi: 10.1007/s11356-021-16747-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAn increasing trend of urban floods in India from past several years causes major damages on Indian cities. By 2050, more than half of the population in the developing countries like India are expected to migrate to urban regions. Urbanization is triggered in developing countries as people migrate to cities in search of employment opportunities resulting in formation of new slums. With high density of population concentration in cities, urban floods are triggered leading to a significant impact of human life and economy o...

The Effectiveness of Gait Retraining on Running Kinematics, Kinetics, Performance, Pain, and Injury in Distance Runners: A Systematic Review With Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Gait retraining interventions altered step rate and knee kinematics, lowered vertical loading rates, and did not affect running performance. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther, Epub 5 Feb 2022. doi:10.2519/jospt.2022.10585.PMID:35128941 | DOI:10.2519/jospt.2022.10585

All Roads Lead to Big Government: Heritage Takes on Big Tech
ConclusionAlthough not persuasive as policy analysis, Frederick ' s paper is of use to those interested in the history and anthropology of American conservatism. The paper embraces the use of political buzzwords such as " woke, " and " left-wing orthodoxy " while using words such as " monopoly " and " oligopoly " in a manner that suggest they have suddenly changed meaning. This kind of rhetoric will be familiar to those who have been paying attention to " Big Tech " policy debates over the last couple of years. Much of it is not a surprise. What may well be a surprise to many readers is that America ' s leading conservativ...

Health screening questionnaires used in the management of mental distress acquired during an injured worker's return to work: A scoping review
CONCLUSION: Earlier identification of mental distress using an optimal MHSQ followed by appropriate intervention will reduce the risk of psychological injury becoming cumulative on a physical workplace injury. Without such complications, early return to work can be achieved with significant cost saving to the economy.PMID:35431195 | DOI:10.3233/WOR-205027

Facebook whistleblower and director of ‘The Social Dilemma’ talk about social media’s impact
Though Facebook, Twitter and other social media channels have connected relatives and  long-lost friends, provided platforms for oppressed voices, helped people explore their identities and see perspectives and parts of the world removed from their day-to-day lives, there have also been negative consequences.Recently, two leading critics of social media sat down with Ramesh Srinivasan, a professor at the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies, to explore the potential harms the popular platforms can cause.  Frances Haugen, the Facebook whistleblower who testified before Congress that the social media giant s...

Melatonin Alleviates Venous Dysfunction in a Mouse Model of Iliac Vein Occlusion
In this study, a mouse model of IVO was established to study the effects of MLT on injured veins. The results of laser speckle images and Evans blue showed that MLT inhibited venous permeability in an IVO mouse model. Furthermore, MLT suppressed inflammation of surrounding tissues close to the affected vein by inhibiting the mRNA levels of TNF-α, IL-1α, and MCP-1. In addition, endothelial injury was inhibited by MLT using zonula occludens protein-1 (ZO-1) staining. Taken together, we elucidated the therapeutic effect of MLT on vascular dysfunction induced by IVO, mainly by inhibiting the TNF-α, IL-1α, and MCP-1 mRNA le...
