Search is a verb: systematic review searching as invisible labor
J Med Libr Assoc. 2021 Jul 1;109(3):505-506. doi: 10.5195/jmla.2021.1226.ABSTRACTInvisible labor is a term used by labor economists to describe work that contributes, and is often even necessary, to the economy but largely goes unrecognized and unpaid. Despite the fact that systematic review searching is a significant task for many librarians and knowledge professionals, the search process can be considered a form of invisible labor because it often goes without recognition. This occurs sometimes through not granting authorship to the librarian who performed the intellectual contribution of search development and sometimes...

Irving Fisher ' s Search for Stable Money: What We Can Learn
ConclusionIn thinking about monetary alternatives, there is no better place to start then a review of Irving Fisher ’s work, especiallyThe Purchasing Power of Money.   His insights can guide all those interested in improving the current government fiat money regime and in avoiding the mistakes of the past.  The Fed, in particular, ought to listen to what Fisher had to say about sound money—that is, money of stable purchasing power.  There is no perfect mone tary system, but one needs to understand what a “good system” would look like in order to move in the right direction.  A deep knowledge of monetary theory,...

Vascular and haemodynamic issues of brain ageing.
Abstract The population is ageing worldwide, thus increasing the burden of common age-related disorders to the individual, society and economy. Cerebrovascular diseases (stroke, dementia) contribute a significant proportion of this burden and are associated with high morbidity and mortality. Thus, understanding and promoting healthy vascular brain ageing are becoming an increasing priority for healthcare systems. In this review, we consider the effects of normal ageing on two major physiological processes responsible for vascular brain function: Cerebral autoregulation (CA) and neurovascular coupling (NVC). CA is ...

A multi-factor and high-order stock forecast model based on Type-2 FTS using cuckoo search and self-adaptive harmony search
In this study, an enhanced model on the study of stock forecasting is proposed. This model is a multi-factor and high-order time series forecast model that the Type-2 fuzzy time series model by integrating several other factors. We first employ the cuckoo search algorithm instead of the conventional average method to partition the universe of discourse, and then propose a novel self-adaptive harmony search algorithm to optimize the high-order weight. Furthermore, the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index and Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index are used to verify the better performance of the propose...

Cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive: a new tool for the vascular access toolbox.
Abstract Health professionals are responsible for preventing and minimising complications related to vascular access devices. This is important from the perspectives of both the patient and the health economy. Practitioners have many tools at their disposal and evidence is available to assist in using these tools to enhance best practice. A relatively new tool has been acknowledged as having a role in vascular access as well as previously recognised roles in other areas of healthcare. Cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive has been approved for use with vascular access devices and the benefits of this aid to device securem...

A study of the allocation of energy consumption permits among the regions of China based on clustering analysis and cuckoo search
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2021 Mar 13. doi: 10.1007/s11356-021-12905-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEnergy sources are power force of society and economy to develop. In recent years, extensive energy consumption patterns have threatened China's economic development step by step and made China's economic growth encounter unprecedented "bottlenecks." Therefore, this paper introduce a novel energy allocation scheme including cluster analysis and weighted voting allocation model to limit energy consumption in each region of China. The entire quota allocation process is divided into two parts by the proposed allocation sche...
