Novel Biomarkers of Atherosclerotic Vascular Disease-Latest Insights in the Research Field
Int J Mol Sci. 2022 Apr 30;23(9):4998. doi: 10.3390/ijms23094998.ABSTRACTThe atherosclerotic vascular disease is a cardiovascular continuum in which the main role is attributed to atherosclerosis, from its appearance to its associated complications. The increasing prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors, population ageing, and burden on both the economy and the healthcare system have led to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in the field. The better understanding or discovery of new pathophysiological mechanisms and molecules modulating various signaling pathways involved in atherosclerosis have...

Google, there's no such thing as 'the perfect map' | Jerry Brotton
The corporation should be honest about its cartographic ethos: its Google Maps app is partly a tool for delivering adsOn Wednesday Google announced the most radical overhaul of the company's online virtual maps application since its creation just eight years ago. The revamped application is clearly a riposte to Apple's disastrous launch of its own mobile maps application last autumn, when Paddington vanished and Dublin gained another airport. Google's improvements have come with a claim that, as a cartographic historian and the author of a book on the history of world mapmaking, gave me a distinct feeling of deja vu. "A pe...

Simple surgical method for a native arteriovenous fistula of chronic hemodialysis patients and the patency rate.
CONCLUSIONS: The AVF is considered as the vascular access with the highest patency rate in the chronic hemodialysis patients. However, the factor influencing this rate is gender. In conclusion, female has a higher risk than male. PMID: 26349888 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A national survey on management of varicose veins in China
Conclusions Both traditional surgery and minimally invasive techniques are used for patients with varicose veins in China, but traditional surgery is the mainstay of treatment for varying degrees of varicose veins. Related clinical factors, duplex ultrasound scan findings, medical insurance, and economy may have influenced the physicians' choice of treatment modality for varicose veins.

‘Search For & Refuse All Deliveries. ’ Amid Trade War, Trump Urges USPS Crackdown on Fentanyl Trafficking From China
With tensions over trade with China escalating, President Donald Trump said on Friday that he is “ordering” the U.S. postal service and express shipping companies to “SEARCH FOR & REFUSE all deliveries of fentanyl,” a deadly synthetic opioid. American officials have long blamed China for the influx of fentanyl and related drugs reaching U.S. borders — sent directly and trafficked via other countries — while federal efforts to limit (if not stop outright) their import have long been underway. ….your companies HOME and making your products in the USA. Impact of Aging on Endurance and Neuromuscular Physical Performance: The Role of Vascular Senescence
We present a narrative review of the literature aimed at discussing the age-related changes in various metrics o f physical performance (exercise economy, anaerobic threshold, peak oxygen uptake, muscle strength, and power). It also explores aging exercise physiology as it relates to global physical performance. Finally, this review examines the vascular contributions to aging exercise physiology. Numerous stu dies have shown that older adults exhibit substantial reductions in physical performance. The process of decline in endurance capacity is particularly insidious over the age of 60 years and varies considerably as a ...

Search for aflatoxin and trichothecene production inhibitors and analysis of their modes of action.
Abstract Mycotoxin contamination of crops is a serious problem throughout the world because of its impact on human and animal health as well as economy. Inhibitors of mycotoxin production are useful not only for developing effective methods to prevent mycotoxin contamination, but also for investigating the molecular mechanisms of secondary metabolite production by fungi. We have been searching for mycotoxin production inhibitors among natural products and investigating their modes of action. In this article, we review aflatoxin and trichothecene production inhibitors, including our works on blasticidin S, methyl s...

Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection: Current State of the Science: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.
y; Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing; Council on Genomic and Precision Medicine; and Stroke Council Abstract Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) has emerged as an important cause of acute coronary syndrome, myocardial infarction, and sudden death, particularly among young women and individuals with few conventional atherosclerotic risk factors. Patient-initiated research has spurred increased awareness of SCAD, and improved diagnostic capabilities and findings from large case series have led to changes in approaches to initial and long-term management and increasing evidence that SCAD not only...

COVID-19 Financial Resources for Physicians
The appropriate focus in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States has been addressing access and delivery of care to the population impacted by the outbreak. All sectors of the U.S economy have been significantly impacted including physicians. Physician groups of all specialties and sizes have experienced the financial impact of the pandemic. Hospitals have received billions of dollars to support and enable them to handle emergencies and cover the cost of the disruption. However, many Vascular Surgeons are under great financial pressure because of postponement of all non-emergency procedures.

Cardiovascular Considerations in Caring for Pregnant Patients: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.
diovascular and Stroke Nursing; and Stroke Council Abstract Cardio-obstetrics has emerged as an important multidisciplinary field that requires a team approach to the management of cardiovascular disease during pregnancy. Cardiac conditions during pregnancy include hypertensive disorders, hypercholesterolemia, myocardial infarction, cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias, valvular disease, thromboembolic disease, aortic disease, and cerebrovascular diseases. Cardiovascular disease is the primary cause of pregnancy-related mortality in the United States. Advancing maternal age and preexisting comorbid conditions have contri...

Ramping up Delivery of Cardiac Surgery During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Guidance Statement from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons COVID-19 Task Force.
Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound global impact. Its rapid transmissibility has transformed healthcare delivery and forced countries to adopt strict measures to contain its spread. The vast majority of U.S. cardiac surgical programs have deferred all but truly emergent/urgent operative procedures in an effort to reduce the burden on the healthcare system and to mobilize resources to combat the pandemic surge. While the number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase worldwide, the incidence of new cases has begun to decline in many North American cities. This "flattening of the curve" has prompted i...
