Socioeconomic status is not associated with unfavorable outcomes in patients with acute limb ischemia
CONCLUSIONS: SES was not associated with the severity of ALI at patient presentation. Although SES was associated with the presence of peripheral arterial disease and chronic kidney disease at presentation, SES was not a predictor of short-term or 1-year limb loss and mortality. Overall, ALI presentation and treatment outcomes were independent of SES.PMID:36117451 | DOI:10.1177/17085381221124994

Practice Makes Improvement: How Adults with Autism Out-Perform Others in a Naturalistic Visual Search Task.
Abstract People with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often exhibit superior performance in visual search compared to others. However, most studies demonstrating this advantage have employed simple, uncluttered images with fully visible targets. We compare the performance of high-functioning adults with ASD and matched controls on a naturalistic luggage screening task. Although the two groups were equally accurate in detecting targets, the ASD adults improve in their correct elimination of target-absent bags faster than controls. This feature of their behavior is extremely important for many real-world monitoring ta...

Employment Interventions for Individuals with ASD: The Relative Efficacy of Supported Employment With or Without Prior Project SEARCH Training.
Abstract This paper presents findings from a retrospective observational records review study that compares the outcomes associated with implementation of supported employment (SE) with and without prior Project SEARCH with ASD Supports (PS-ASD) on wages earned, time spent in intervention, and job retention. Results suggest that SE resulted in competitive employment for 45 adults with ASD. Twenty-five individuals received prior intervention through PS-ASD while the other 20 individuals received SE only. Individuals in this sample who received PS-ASD required fewer hours of intervention. Additionally, individuals i...

Switching the Antidepressant After Nonresponse in Adults With Major Depression: A Systematic Literature Search and Meta-Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: There is a dearth of randomized controlled trials investigating switching. There is no high-level evidence that switching the antidepressant is effective when compared to simply continuing the initial antidepressant. Since there are better treatment options than switching, physicians should be cautious to switch antidepressants. PMID: 27929611 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Gender and professional e-networks: Implications of gender heterophily on job search facilitation and outcomes
This study examines the role of gender heterophily on e-network facilitation and, in turn, on a set of job-search related outcomes through a survey of full-time, salaried LinkedIn users. We find that women's e-networks are characterized by greater gender heterophilly than men's. E-networks comprised of high proportions of ties with men enabled individuals to experience shorter job search duration and attain higher salaries. These effects were partially explained by the increased likelihood of receiving direct assistance from a network contact to secure new employment (i.e. network facilitation).

Vascular E-Selectin Acts As a Gatekeeper Inducing Commitment and Loss of Self-Renewal in HSC Transmigrating through the Marrow Vasculature
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) reside in specific peri-vascular niches in the bone marrow (BM). We have shown interactions with the inflammatory vascular adhesion molecule E-(endothelial)-selectin awakens HSC (Nat Med 2012). We now report that BM vascular cell-surface E-selectin expression is strongly upregulated during HSC mobilization regimens raising the question of a role for endothelial E-selectin in HSC transplant outcome.G-CSF was administered to cohorts of E gene-deleted or wildtype C57BL/6 mice together with E-selectin antagonist Uproleselan (Upro, GMI-1271). We found absence (Sele-/- mice) or therapeutic blockade...
