Laparoscopic treatment of sclerosing stromal tumor of the ovary in a woman with Gorlin-Goltz Syndrome: a case report and review of the literature
This report describes a rare association between Gorlin-Goltz syndrome and the sclerosing stromal tumor of the ovary. Since the ultrasounds and magnetic resonance pattern of this tumor can be similar to those of a malignant neoplasm, a prompt surgical intervention and histological confirmation of diagnosis is mandatory. However this is a benign lesion and thus can be approached with a laparoscopic fertility sparing surgery. Gynecologists should be aware of this possible association, in order to provide an appropriate counseling to these women, and to perform a fertility sparing laparoscopic approach, wherever possible. Tea...

A review on possible mechanisms of sonocrystallisation in solution.
Abstract Sonocrystallisation is the application of ultrasound to the crystallisation process. The benefits obtained by sonication have been widely studied since the beginning of the 20th century and so far it is clear that ultrasound can be a very useful tool for enhancing crystallisation and controlling the properties of the final product. Crystal size, polymorphs, purity, process repeatability and lower induction time are only some of the advantages of sonocrystallisation. Even though the effects of sonication on crystallisation are quite clear, the physical explanation of the phenomena involved is still lacking...

Current recommendations for cancer surveillance in Gorlin syndrome: a report from the SIOPE host genome working group (SIOPE HGWG)
This report summarizes genotype-based recommendations for screening patients withPTCH1 andSUFU-related Gorlin syndrome, discussed during a workshop of the Host Genome Working Group of the European branch of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOPE HGWG) held in January 2020. In order to allow early detection of BCC, dermatologic examination should start at age 10 inPTCH1, and at age 20 inSUFU PV carriers. Odontogenic keratocyst screening, based on odontologic examination, should begin at age 2 with annual orthopantogram beginning around age 8 forPTCH1 PV carriers only. For medulloblastomas, repeated brain MRI...

Sonocrystallisation of ZIF-8 in water with high excess of ligand: Effects of frequency, power and sonication time
Ultrason Sonochem. 2021 Jun 6;76:105616. doi: 10.1016/j.ultsonch.2021.105616. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA systematic study on the sonocrystallisation of ZIF-8 (zeolitic imidazolate framework-8) in a water-based system was investigated under different mixing speeds, ultrasound frequencies, calorimetric powers and sonication time. Regardless of the synthesis technique, pure crystals of ZIF-8 with high BET (Brunauer, Emmett and Teller) specific surface area (SSA) can be obtained in water after only 5 s. Furthermore, 5 s sonication produced even smaller crystals (~0.08 µm). The type of technique applied for producing the ...

Visual search in breast imaging: A review.
Abstract Breast cancer is the most common cancer among females worldwide and large volumes of breast images are produced and interpreted annually. As long as radiologists interpret these images, the diagnostic accuracy will be limited by human factors and both false-positive and false-negative errors might occur. By understanding visual search in breast images, we may be able to identify causes of diagnostic errors, find ways to reduce them, and also provide a better education to radiology residents. Many visual search studies in breast radiology have been devoted to mammography. These studies showed that 70% of m...

GoogleFOAM
The expansion of the FOAM world is a bit like blowing up a balloon. The early stages involved a lot of effort for a small increase in size, but as it gets bigger, the resistance is falling away and expansion is getting faster and faster. Obviously this is a good thing. But it can make it easier for us all to get lost and there is the danger of information overload — indeed, I’ve written a guide to (in)sanity in the age of FOAM that I continually update, the LITFL post on Information Overload. The FOAM world is now impossible to keep up with. We need to be able to find what we want when we need it, according to our ...

Where ’s Waldo? The utility of a complicated visual search paradigm for transcranial Doppler-based assessments of neurovascular coupling
Conclusions We recommend complicated visual search paradigms such as Where’s Waldo be considered for future transcranial Doppler-based neurovascular coupling studies.

Derivation and validation of text search algorithms for renal and adrenal lesion identification in radiology text reports.
CONCLUSIONS: Textual radiology reports can be analyzed using common statistical software to accurately determine the probability that important abnormalities of the kidneys or adrenal glands exist. These methods can be used for case identification or epidemiological studies. PMID: 31977309 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Inflammation: an important parameter in the search of prostate cancer biomarkers
Conclusions: The present study indicates that inflammation might be a confounding parameter during the proteomic research of candidate biomarkers of PCa. These results indicate that some possible biomarker-candidate proteins are strongly influenced by the presence of inflammation, hence only a well-selected protein pattern should be considered for potential marker of PCa.

Induction of ovulation with buserelin in jennies: In search of the minimum effective dose.
Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the minimum dose of buserelin acetate (buserelin) able to induce ovulation between 24 and 48h from treatment (positive response) in estrous jennies. Jennies were studied during a total of 172 estrous cycles: ovarian activity was routinely monitored by ultrasound; when the dominant follicle reached a diameter of 33±1mm, estrous jennies were treated by subcutaneous administration of different doses of buserelin, 3.3mg (N=11), 1.5mg (N=21), 0.8mg (N=12), 0.4mg (N=16), 0.2mg (N=13), 0.1mg (N=16), 0.04mg (N=14), 0.02mg (N=16), or employed as controls (N=53). Single jennie...

Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome: What do you search in prenatal diagnosis? About 14 cases.
CONCLUSION: This study identified some prenatal ultrasound signs that should alert the clinician to the possibility of BWS. A genetic conseling, after confirmation by molecular diagnosis, could be proposed in a near future in prenatal, and could improve postnatal management strategies for these affected children at high postnatal risk. Evaluation of the benefit of different complementary exams in the search for a TB diagnosis algorithm for HIV patients put on ART in Niamey, Niger.
The objective of this research is to evaluate the performance and the cost-effectiveness of various paraclinical testing strategies of TB among adult patients with HIV, using available tests in routine for patients cared in Niamey. This is a multicentric prospective intervention study performed in Niamey between 2010 and 2013. TB screening has been sought in newly diagnosed PLHIV, before ART treatment, performing consistently: a sputum examination by MZN (Ziehl-Nielsen staining) and microscopy fluorescence (MIF), chest radiography (CR), and abdominal ultrasound. The performance of these different tests was calculated using...
