83% of British people recognise chronic pain as a serious medical condition, only 15% get treatment
Almost 10 million people in the UK suffer from chronic pain, which has a major impact on quality of life and day to day activities, such as work; (1) however many of those people do not have their pain under control or know how to go about seeking the right treatment. A survey, which was conducted by St. Jude Medical in collaboration with Pain UK, recently interviewed 1614 people (1090 general respondents and 524 chronic pain sufferers) and found that although chronic pain is quite prevalent, there is a general lack of awareness about what chronic pain is and how it should be treated.

Opioids for Pain
Date: April 9, 2018 Issue #:  1544Summary:  Use of nonopioid drugs for pain was reviewed in a previous issue. For many types of moderate to severe acute pain, acetaminophen and/or an NSAID may be as effective as an opioid. Immediate-release formulations of full opioid agonists should generally be used for acute pain that is severe enough to require treatment with an opioid. Use of extended-release or long-acting opioid formulations initially and treatment durations>1 week have been associated with an increased risk of unintended long-term use.

Analgesic Effect of Zanthoxylum nitidum Extract in Inflammatory Pain Models Through Targeting of ERK and NF- κB Signaling
Conclusion: The present study suggests that the extract of LMZ attenuates CFA-induced inflammatory pain by suppressing the ERK1/2 and NF-κB signaling pathway at both peripheral and central level. Introduction Pain is one of the most common symptoms in clinical practice, and inflammatory pain is the most important type of pain (Patapoutian et al., 2009). Inflammatory pain is a growing global health problem. In generally, there is a common course of progression in inflammation and pain share. Cost of pain medication to treat adult patients with nonmalignant chronic pain in the United States.
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated national prescribing costs and use within various drug categories of pain medications in a large outpatient population over an 8-year period in the United States. Policymakers, stakeholders, and health plan decision makers may consider this cost analysis, since they need to know how drug costs are being allocated. Moreover, information about costs and use of pain medications is valuable for the practitioner making individual patient care decisions, as well as for those who make population based decisions. This study reported an increasing trend of outpatient pain visits in the United St...
