Comparison of Joint Mobilization and Movement Pattern Training for Patients with Hip-Related Groin Pain: A Pilot Randomized Clinical Trial
CONCLUSIONS: A large RCT to assess the effects of JtMob and MoveTrain for patients with HRGP may be feasible. Preliminary findings suggested that JtMob or MoveTrain may result in improvements in patient-reported pain and activity limitations.IMPACT: The COVID-19 pandemic interfered with participation, but a randomized controlled trial may be feasible. Modification may be needed if the trial is completed during future pandemics.PMID:37606253 | DOI:10.1093/ptj/pzad111

Are Exercise Interventions in Clinical Trials for Chronic Low Back Pain Dosed Appropriately to Meet the World Health Organization's Physical Activity Guidelines?
CONCLUSION: Few interventions tested in clinical trials for people with CLBP prescribe an exercise type and dose consistent with the WHO guidelines. Therefore, they do not appear sufficiently dosed to achieve broader health outcomes. Future trials should investigate the effect of WHO guideline-recommended exercise interventions on patient-reported outcomes (pain and disability) as well as health-related outcomes in people with CLBP.IMPACT: This exploratory analysis showed the lack of exercise interventions in the CLBP literature that meet the WHO's physical activity guidelines. With people in chronic pain groups, such as p...

P54. Utilization of clinical practice guideline interventions during physical therapy in the conservative management of mechanical neck pain: a retrospective chart review
Neck pain is a common musculoskeletal condition frequently treated by physical therapists. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) published a clinical practice guideline (CPG) in 2008 with a revision in 2017 to improve diagnosis and treatment of neck pain. One subset of neck pain in the CPG is “Neck Pain with Mobility Deficits,” also called mechanical neck pain. Little data exists on the adherence of physical therapists to the CPG recommended treatments for neck pain as well as the outcomes associated with the utilization of the CPG.

P39. Combining flexion lateral radiographs with a supine MRI is superior to a combination of flexion and extension lateral radiographs at detecting vertebral instability in patients with spondylolisthesis
Spondylolisthesis is a common cause of low back pain via nerve compression with predominant involvement of the L4-L5 or L5-S1 vertebral levels. Treatment regimens range from nonoperative management with lumbar spinal injections and physical therapy to lumbar decompression and fusion surgery. The decision to pursue surgery is based on patient symptoms, failure of nonoperative management, and radiographic evidence of spondylolisthesis and instability. The current imaging modality most widely accepted for assessing instability is flexion-extension lateral radiographs.

Effects of a foot-ankle muscle strengthening program on pain and function in individuals with knee osteoarthritis: a randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: The 8-week foot-ankle exercise program showed positive, and potentially clinically meaningful, effects on knee pain and physical function among individuals with KOA, when compared to usual care.TRIAL REGISTRATION: NCT04154059. https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04154059.PMID:37603935 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2023.100531

Clinical characteristics of patients with hypermobile type Ehlers –Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and generalized hypermobility spectrum disorders (G-HSD): an online survey
AbstractTo examine the perspective of individuals with Hypermobile Ehlers –Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and Generalized Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (G-HSD), needed to help identify priorities and improve the lives of people living with these conditions. We conducted an online survey between November 2021 and January 2023. Participants were recruited through the Ehlers-Dan los Society’s Research Surveys website. We obtained 483 responses and 396 were analyzed. 80% of the survey’s respondents were individuals with hEDS, 90% were females, 30% were between 21 and 30, and 76% lived in North America, with 85% of the particip...

Can language enhance physical therapists' willingness to follow Choosing Wisely recommendations? A best-worst scaling study
CONCLUSION: Physical therapists were more willing to follow recommendations that provided more detail, alternatives to low-value care, and were positively framed. These findings can inform the development of future Choosing Wisely recommendations and could help reduce low-value physical therapy.PMID:37597492 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2023.100534
