Transversus abdominis plane block versus caudal block with bupivacaine and dexmedetomidine for unilateral inguinal hernia repair in pediatric patients: a randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: The TAP block and caudal block provide good postoperative analgesia in children undergoing unilateral inguinal hernia repair. Adding dexmedetomidine to the TAP block was superior to the caudal block in terms of extending the length of the initial analgesic request, lowering analgesic requirement, and lowering pain scores without causing substantial adverse effects.PMID:37676175 | DOI:10.23736/S0375-9393.23.16675-2

Living liver donor pain management
Curr Opin Organ Transplant. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.1097/MOT.0000000000001099. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Optimal pain control in living liver donors undergoing hepatectomy is strongly recommended considering their unique status as healthy individuals willingly undergoing surgery for the benefit of the recipient. This review aims to examine and evaluate different strategies aimed at ensuring effective postoperative pain management in living liver donors.RECENT FINDINGS: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols have proven effective in optimizing patient outcomes, including in living liver donor he...

Application Value of Early Warning Nursing Model with "Evidence-based Concept" as the Core in Peri-anesthesia Period for Gastric Cancer
CONCLUSION: Under the evidence-based early warning nursing model, nurses accurately assess patients' conditions during the peri-anesthesia period, leading to improved care plans that reduce complications and postoperative pain while enhancing patient satisfaction.PMID:37678864

Virtual Reality Distraction for Reducing Acute Postoperative Pain After Hip Arthroplasty: A Randomized Trial
CONCLUSIONS: We did not observe statistically significant or clinically meaningful reductions in average pain scores or opioid consumption. As used in our trial, virtual reality did not reduce acute postoperative pain.PMID:37678233 | DOI:10.1213/ANE.0000000000006642

Implementation of a quadratus lumborum regional block protocol with assessment of effectiveness for patients with appendicitis: a quality improvement project
ConclusionQLBs can be safely administered in children and provide improvements in opioid consumption postoperatively. QLBs should remain a strongly favored regional anesthetic technique because of their wide applicability for abdominal surgeries to minimize rescue opioid analgesic use.Type of studyRetrospective comparative study.Level of evidenceLevel III.

Evaluation of pain-alleviating strategies during allergy shots (subcutaneous immunotherapy): a randomized controlled pilot study
Conclusions. There were no significant differences found between each of the distraction devices and between the control group. Type II error/false negative finding cannot be ruled out because of a small sample. Therefore, we cannot conclude that no true difference exists between each distraction device and the control group simply because of occurrence of a non-significant P-value in our study.PMID:37671862 | DOI:10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.312
