Selection of therapeutic H5N1 monoclonal antibodies following IgVH repertoire analysis in mice
Publication date: July 2016 Source:Antiviral Research, Volume 131 Author(s): Sean A. Gray, Margaret Moore, Emily J. VandenEkart, Richard P. Roque, Richard A. Bowen, Neal Van Hoeven, Steven R. Wiley, Christopher H. Clegg The rapid rate of influenza virus mutation drives the emergence of new strains that inflict serious seasonal epidemics and less frequent, but more deadly, pandemics. While vaccination provides the best protection against influenza, its utility is often diminished by the unpredictability of new pathogenic strains. Consequently, efforts are underway to identify new antiviral drugs and monoclonal ant...

Effects of ageing and physical activity on blood pressure and endothelial function during acute inflammation
New Findings What is the central question of this study? Do older and younger adults have similar vascular endothelial and blood pressure responses to acute inflammation? Does physical activity affect these responses? What is the main finding and its importance? Older adults reduce blood pressure whereas younger adults reduce endothelial function during acute inflammation. Physical activity does not provide protection against these inflammation‐induced changes. This is important because older adults regularly experience acute increases in systemic inflammation that may predispose older adults to cardiovascular events ...
