Why Should Vascular Surgeons be More Involved in Kidney Transplantation?
In most countries, solid organ transplantation is performed by general surgeons with a special interest or sub-specialisation in the field. Urologists may also be primary operators, given that it clearly falls within the purview of renal surgery. Kidney transplantation may thereby be equally performed by a variety of specialists, depending on the local situation. However, kidney transplantation is rarely performed by vascular surgeons, despite the vascular state of both recipients and donors.

Re. “Why Should Vascular Surgeons be More Involved in Kidney Transplantation?”
We oppose the suggestions by Lejay et  al. that vascular surgeons should be more involved in kidney transplantation.1 Their implication that vascular surgeons have a unique skillset that is currently lacking in kidney transplantation is unsupported. These skills are standard in transplant surgical practice.2

Life-saving vascular access after combined liver and kidney transplantation: A challenging access to the right atrium.
We report the case of a boy treated for loss of hemodialysis access after a combined liver-kidney transplantation and transient renal dysfunction. An interventional dilatation of calcific superior vena cava allowed to insert a stable central venous line for dialysis until full graft recovery. Endovascular interventions for managing vascular complication of renal transplantation
Renal transplantation is a well-established treatment for patients with end stage renal disease. While the procedure is commonly undertaken with a high-rate of initial technical success, a low but significant risk of vascular complications may develop that ultimately threatens the transplanted kidney. This includes transplant renal artery stenosis, extraparenchymal and intraparenchymal pseudoaneurysm and arteriovenous fistula formation, and stenosis of native iliac arteries due to aortoiliac occlusive disease.

Does kidney transplantation to iliac artery deteriorate ischemia in the ipsilateral lower extremity with peripheral arterial disease?
CONCLUSIONS: Transplanted kidney to iliac artery does not significantly deteriorate ischemia in adults with ipsilateral lower extremity peripheral arterial disease.
