End-of-life care in Brazilian Pediatric Intensive Care Units
CONCLUSION: Most professionals felt unprepared to forego life-sustaining treatment. Even for terminally ill patients, withholding is preferred over the withdrawal of treatment. Socio-cultural barriers and the lack of adequate training may be contributing to insecurity in the care of terminally ill patients, diverging from practices in other countries.PMID:36963435 | DOI:10.1016/j.jped.2023.02.003

What Searches Do Users Run on PEDro? An Analysis of 893,971 Search Commands Over a 6-Month Period.
CONCLUSIONS: PEDro is a commonly used evidence resource, but searching appears to be sub-optimal in many cases. The effectiveness of searches conducted by users needs to improve, which could be facilitated by methods such as targeted training and amending the search interface. Associations between Greenness, Impervious Surface Area, and Nighttime Lights on Biomarkers of Vascular Aging in Chennai, India
Conclusion: Greenness, ISA, and NTL were associated with increased SBP, DBP, and cPP, and with reduced FMD, suggesting a possible additional EVA pathway for the relationship between urbanization and increased CVD prevalence in urban India. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP541 Received: 20 May 2016 Revised: 03 January 2017 Accepted: 23 January 2017 Published: 02 August 2017 Address correspondence to K.J. Vascular disorder in a competitive cyclist: a case report.
Abstract Abstract The purpose of this case report was to alert the physical therapist (PT) to the possibility of vascular disorders in endurance athletes with apparent musculoskeletal symptoms. A 33-year-old female injured her knee in a fall and described a history of progressive unilateral lower extremity (LE) pain and weakness, especially with running and cycling. She received LE stretching and strengthening but her symptoms persisted, so she stopped all activity. When she became symptomatic with minimal exertion, she went to a neurologist, but electromyographic (EMG)/nerve conduction velocity (NCV) studies were...

Vascular rehabilitation in lower-extremity artery disease in 2017.
Abstract WHAT WE KNEW: The vascular rehabilitation is an effective treatment for patients with an intermittent claudication linked to lower-extremity artery disease. This treatment increases the claudication distance of 180% with the Gardner's protocol (30 to 60 minutes of walking at least 3 times a week, walking until appearance of a mild pain) and allows also to control the vascular risk factors. This treatment is not enough prescribed for many reasons and often requires a hospitalization in a rehabilitation centre. WHAT WE KNOW NOW: Walking rehabilitation remains the base of the treatment of lower-extremit...

Combined vascular malformation of neck: A case report
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2022 Mar 29;76:103531. doi: 10.1016/j.amsu.2022.103531. eCollection 2022 Apr.ABSTRACTVascular malformations are developmental anomalies occurring due to defective vasculogenesis. Depending on the number of vessels involved, they are subgrouped into simple or combined types. Combined vascular malformations are a rare clinical entity with two or more vascular malformations (capillary, venous, arteriovenous, lymphatic) present in one lesion. Due to the complexity of these lesions, clinicians should employ an interdisciplinary approach with multi-staged treatment for the proper management. Here, we report ...

The effects of major depression disorder on neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome surgery outcomes
CONCLUSION: Comorbid MDD was strongly associated with higher NRD rates following nTOS surgical intervention. MDD had no significant impact on length of hospital stay or total hospital charges. Additional prospective research is necessary in order to better evaluate the impact of MDD in patients with nTOS.PMID:34958613 | DOI:10.1177/17085381211062747

Exercise and Vascular Function in Child Obesity: A Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Exercise training improves vascular function in overweight and obese children, as indicated by enhanced FMD. Further research is required to establish the optimum exercise program for maintenance of healthy vascular function in this at-risk pediatric population.

Effects of physiotherapy combined with sirolimus in a patient with vascular malformation: A case report.
Abstract The aim of the present case report was to investigate the effects of a physiotherapy program combined with sirolimus in a child patient with upper extremity edema and joint limitation due to low-flow vascular malformation. This case report included an 11-year-old male patient (26 kg, 130 cm) diagnosed with congenital lymphovascular malformation on the left and right chest. The patient, who had edema on the upper left extremity and experienced joint limitations, was administered complete decongestive therapy (CDT) and manual therapy in combination with sirolimus. Physiotherapy included a total of 24 sessio...

Function of Connexins in the Interaction between Glial and Vascular Cells in the Central Nervous System and Related Neurological Diseases.
Abstract Neuronal signaling together with synapse activity in the central nervous system requires a precisely regulated microenvironment. Recently, the blood-brain barrier is considered as a "neuro-glia-vascular unit," a structural and functional compound composed of capillary endothelial cells, glial cells, pericytes, and neurons, which plays a pivotal role in maintaining the balance of the microenvironment in and out of the brain. Tight junctions and adherens junctions, which function as barriers of the blood-brain barrier, are two well-known kinds in the endothelial cell junctions. In this review, we focus on t...

Focus on the Hand - an Interface Between Surgery and Vascular Medicine.
Abstract Damage to the hand caused by vibration has been observed with a range of trades and professions and in connection with various types of sport. Osseous, neurogenic and vascular lesions can lead to chronic ailments and permanent functional impairment. Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) and hypothenar/thenar hammer syndrome (HHS, THS) are interesting for vascular medicine. From a surgical perspective, there is a special significance in the fact that both syndromes are recognised occupational diseases (BK 2104 and BK 2114) which have to be acknowledged by an accident insurance doctor and in the medical report...

Design, synthesis, pharmacological evaluation and vascular effects of delphinidin analogues.
CONCLUSION: The current study demonstrated that pharmacomodulation of the Dp backbone by replacement of OH groups by OCH3 groups of the A and B rings led to the identification and characterization of two compounds (9 and 11) with enhanced physio-chemical properties that could be associated to higher permeability capability and pharmacological activity for the prevention of CVDs compared to Dp. Day of surgery: the impact on patient length of stay in a tertiary vascular unit.
CONCLUSION: Day of surgery appears to impact on patients' length of stay following vascular procedures, with the greatest impact on medium-sized procedures. This difference could be explained by the difference in weekend support services, but further evaluation is required following introduction of weekend support services to assess this.
