Intraoperative detection of Rectosigmoid Endometriosis
42-year-old with history of total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingectomy, and right oophorectomy with another provider for the treatment of adenomyosis and endometrioma two years prior, presented with cyclical hematochezia. Postoperatively, chronic pelvic pain improved, however cyclical hematochezia and rectal passage of mucus developed. Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) can be performed at the time of vaginal hysterectomy (VH). It may be indicated in the presence of pathology, history of endometriosis or chronic pelvic pain or risk-reduction for potential gynecologic malignancies[1,2]. Oophorectomy has the benefit of reducing ovarian cancer risk by 96% and breast cancer risk by 25% [1,3].
