Buprenorphine Inductions via Transdermal Patches for Opioid Use Disorder in the Inpatient Setting
J Pain Palliat Care Pharmacother. 2023 Jun 16:1-6. doi: 10.1080/15360288.2023.2222021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBuprenorphine inductions traditionally require an opioid-free period due to the risk of precipitated opioid withdrawal. Hospitalized patients with opioid use disorder and concurrent acute pain may be eligible for buprenorphine therapy. However, effective buprenorphine induction strategies in this patient population have not been well established. Investigators sought to review the completion of a low dose induction protocol that does not require an opioid-free period prior to buprenorphine initiation. Hospit...

A couch in two worlds
I remember when I met you and your family. You were admitted critically ill to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and Palliative Medicine was consulted to aid in family support. As I walked in, I noticed your mom and dad sitting side-by-side on the couch aside your bed. The three of you were tucked behind multiple machines and pumps, all in various stages of whirring and beeping.

Integration of Palliative Care in Hematopoietic Cell Transplant: Pediatric Patient and Parent Needs and Attitudes
Early integration of palliative care (PC) in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) has demonstrated benefits, yet barriers remain, including perceived lack of patient/caregiver receptivity despite no data on attitudes toward PC and limited patient/caregiver reported outcomes in pediatric HCT.

A Worksheet to Facilitate Discussions of Values for Patients with Metastatic Cancer: a Pilot Study

HOPE: A Pilot Study of Psilocybin Enhanced Group Psychotherapy in Patients with Cancer
Psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy shows promise in treating depression and existential distress in people with serious medical illness. However, its individual-based methodology poses challenges for scaling and resource availability. The HOPE trial (A Pilot Study of Psilocybin Enhanced Group Psychotherapy in Patients with Cancer) is an IRB-approved open-label feasibility and safety pilot study examining psilocybin-assisted group therapy in cancer patients with a DSM-5 depressive disorder (including major depressive disorder as well as adjustment disorder with depressed mood).

Retrospective Review of Follow-up Strategies for Patients Receiving Palliative Radiotherapy
: There is no current standard-of-care follow-up strategy for patients who receive palliative radiotherapy (PRT) for bone metastases. Within our institution there is currently a heterogenous practice in which some providers schedule routine follow up 1-3 months after initial PRT while others do follow up only as needed (PRN).
