The Fate of Hemodialysis Vascular Access After Kidney Transplantation: Why Ligation Should Not Be Systematically Performed?
After renal transplant, the haemodialysis (HD) vascular access (VA) is often maintained in the event of graft failure but evidence to recommend the systematic ligation/maintenance are lacking. We investigate the effects of VA preservation/ligation in successfully transplanted patients.

Omega-3 fatty acids for dialysis vascular access outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease.
CONCLUSIONS: In CKD patients with an AVF, there is moderate certainty that ω-3FA supplementation makes little or no difference to preventing patency loss; and in patients with an AVG, it is very uncertain that ω-3FA supplementation prevents patency loss within 12 months. Preoperative vascular access evaluation for haemodialysis patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on four small studies, preoperative vessel imaging did not improve fistula outcomes compared with standard care. Adequately powered prospective studies are required to fully answer this question. PMID: 26418347 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Refractory ascites and graft dysfunction in early renal transplantation.
Discussion: Incomplete septal cirrhosis is an uncommon cause of non-cirrhotic portal hypertension. Its definition is not well known, morphological and pathophysiological. We have not found published cases of post-RT ascites secondary to this pathology, described as possibly associated with drugs, immune alterations, infections, hypercoagulability and genetic predisposition. Pediatric kidney transplantation: outcomes with under and over 6-year-old donors
CONCLUSIONS: Small donors can be considered for pDDKTs, as long as there is an expert team to perform the transplantation.PMID:37591483 | DOI:10.1016/j.jped.2023.07.005

The effect of exercise on vascular health in chronic kidney disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1152/ajprenal.00152.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPatients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease. This increased risk cannot be fully explained by traditional risk factors such as hypertension. Endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness have been suggested as factors which explain some of the increased risk, and are independently associated with important cardiovascular outcomes in CKD patients. Studies in other disease populations have shown positive effects of exercise on vascular dysfunction. The aim of this review was...

Chest X-ray and chest CT findings in patients diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis following solid organ transplantation: a systematic review
The objective of this systematic review was to select articles including chest X-ray or chest CT findings in patients who developed pulmonary tuberculosis following solid organ transplantation (lung, kidney, or liver). The following search terms were used: “ tuberculosis ” ; “ transplants ” ; “ transplantation ” ; “ mycobacterium ” ; and “ lung ” . The databases used in this review were PubMed and the Brazilian Biblioteca Virtual em Sa úde (Virtual Health Library). We selected articles in English, Portuguese, or Spanish, regardless of the year of publication, that met the selection criteria in their ti...

Acute renal artery thrombosis after kidney transplantation
In conclusion, close monitoring of postoperative diuresis and, if necessary, immediate retransplantation in this situation can prove to be a successful treatment for preventing graft loss.

Brazilian Chronic Dialysis Survey 2013 - trend analysis between 2011 and 2013.
CONCLUSION: The absolute number of patients on dialysis has increased 3% per year. The prevalence and incidence rates of patients on dialysis leveled off, while the mortality rate tended to decrease compared with 2012. There was a trend towards a better control of the anemia and PTH levels. PMID: 25517276 [PubMed - in process]
