Separation effect, pain perception during functional activity and gingival inflammation of elastomeric and Kansal separators —a split mouth study
ConclusionBoth the separators produced adequate separation after a minimum 3  days. Kansal produces minimum discomfort and pain compared to elastomeric separators. Mild gingival inflammation was observed with both the separators.

Controversies in Dental Traumatology
The management of traumatic dental injuries is more a shade of gray than it is black and white because not all treatment procedures used for dental trauma management are fully evidence based. This chapter has highlighted some of the gray areas related to the treatment and outcome of traumatic dental injuries. Significant controversies in the management of luxation and avulsive injuries have been brought out. Adjunctive treatment such as antibiotic usage, tetanus vaccination, and pain management is also addressed.

Medication Management of Neuropathic Pain Disorders
It is important for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons to be familiar with the various neuropathic facial pain disorders and their appropriate treatments. Neuropathic pain can be characterized by the nature of the pain experienced by patients; episodic or continuous. Episodic neuropathic pain disorders include trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia. Continuous neuropathic pain disorders compromise of disorders such as idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia, postherpetic neuralgia, central post-stroke pain, and complex regional pain syndrome. Various forms of pharmacologic management exist for these neuropathic pain disorders.

Patient discomfort and intensity of intraseptal anesthesia of computer-controlled articaine/epinephrine delivery for scaling and root planing
ConclusionsNo dose-dependent differences were found regarding patient discomfort and pain intensity of ISA delivery of 4%Ar  + Ep for SRP.Clinical RelevanceThe pain during ISA administration was mild and well tolerated regardless of the anesthetic dose. A lower intensity of pain during SRP can be expected in patients with greater CAL. Post-treatment pain can be anticipated after SRP in the regions with greater PPD and CAL.Clinical Trials registration number: NCT04392804 (May 9th, 2020).

Comparison of Oral Health-Related Quality of Life scores in children treated for early childhood caries under general and local anesthesia: a quasi-experimental study
ConclusionEarly treatment for ECC reduces pain, restore normal activities, and improves the quality of life of affected children. Specifically, GA was found to be more beneficial for both children and parents. However, further studies using more robust study designs and carefully considering related factors are necessary to confirm these findings.

Evidence-based clinical practice guideline for the pharmacologic management of acute dental pain in children: A report from the American Dental Association Science and Research Institute, the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, and the Center for Integrative Global Oral Health at the University of Pennsylvania
CONCLUSIONS AND PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Nonopioid medications, specifically nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and naproxen alone or in combination with acetaminophen, are recommended for managing acute dental pain after 1 or more tooth extractions (that is, simple and surgical) and the temporary management of toothache in children (conditional recommendation, very low certainty). According to the US Food and Drug Administration, the use of codeine and tramadol in children for managing acute pain is contraindicated.PMID:37634915 | DOI:10.1016/j.adaj.2023.06.014

Bilateral arthroscopy of the temporomandibular joint: clinical outcomes and the role of a second intervention —a prospective study
ConclusionsBilateral TMJ arthroscopy presented overall benefit in all parameters evaluated.Clinical relevanceThis study highlights the importance of TMJ arthroscopy as the first line of treatment for moderate-severe temporomandibular disorders cases contributing to the reduction of TMJ open surgeries. In cases of arthroscopy unsuccess, TMJ arthrocentesis under local anesthesia was an effective and safe intervention for patients with recurrent TMJ arthralgia.

Ponticulus Posticus: An Important Diagnostic Finding Often Missed in Lateral Cephalograms
CONCLUSION: On conclusion, according to the findings of the current study, patients with a complete form of PP experience more symptoms than those with a partial form of PP. In both groups, the PP frequency was higher in females.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: In lateral cephalograms, the cervical spine region is typically ignored and given little weight. A common variation of atlas vertebrae is the PP, which is located in the posterior arch of the atlas. The PP exacerbates symptoms, such as migraine, tension headaches, shoulder pain, double vision, vertigo, stroke, and pain in the neck and orofacial region. Therefore, orthodontic ...

Effect of Photobiomodulation on the Depth of Local Anesthesia during Endodontic Treatment of Teeth with Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis
CONCLUSION: The irradiation by diode laser (980 nm) prior to administration of local anesthesia appears to be useful in minimizing discomfort and additional injection during root canal therapy (RCT).CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Pain management is essential for providing the best possible treatment to patients before, during, and after endodontic therapy. Adequate pain control during treatment also aids in reducing postoperative discomfort. This implies the need for additional methods to reduce discomfort during endodontic treatment; hence, adjuncts are crucial to achieving this goal. Photobiomodulation may be used as an adjuvant...
