"Growing pains" in children and adolescents as an early symptom of migraine: A prospective study
CONCLUSIONS: Pain in the lower limbs of children and adolescents, commonly referred to as GP by pediatricians and orthopedists, may reflect a precursor or comorbidity with migraine.PMID:37671464 | DOI:10.1111/head.14608

Treatment of multisegmental vertebral compression, burst fractures, and sandwich vertebra with severe osteoporosis using the PKP technique: a case report and literature review
This study aimed to present a special case of treatment of a patient with multisegmental vertebral compression fracture, burst fracture, and sandwich vertebra and to review the literature on this condition. An 85 year-old female presented with severe low back pain but no radiating pain in the lower extremities. The patient was diagnosed with T12 and L5 vertebral compression fractures, fresh vertebral burst fractures in L2 and L3, and osteoporosis. The focus was on formulating a surgical treatment strategy. At the 12 month follow-up, no neurological deficits were observed, and the chosen surgical treatment approach yiel...

Comparison of the safety and efficacy of radiofrequency thermocoagulation with percutaneous balloon compression for treating trigeminal neuralgia: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionIn the treatment of TN, both RFT and PBC can achieve good short-term efficacy, and no significant differences were noted between the outcomes of the two approaches. Compared with RFT, PBC may result in a lower pain score and recurrence rate in the medium and long terms, but it is a higher incidence of cold sores, and the decrease of masticatory muscle strength is more obvious.

Proteomics profiling reveals mitochondrial damage in the thalamus in a mouse model of chronic migraine
ConclusionOur findings highlight the involvement of mitochondrial damage in the thalamus in central sensitization of CM, which provides evidence of possible metabolic mechanisms in migraine pathophysiology.

Sleep Symptoms and Disorders in Episodic Migraine: Assessment and Management
AbstractPurpose of ReviewWe review research on sleep symptoms and disorders in patients with episodic migraine and propose a framework for evaluating sleep symptoms in this patient population.Recent FindingsPatients with episodic migraine consistently report poorer sleep on validated self-reports compared to those without migraine. In polysomnographic studies, children with migraine have objectively shorter sleep duration and lower percentage of REM sleep  interictally. Prospective actigraphy studies in adults and children suggest that there are no significant changes in sleep duration, efficiency, or quality in the night...

Impact of five floor coverings on the orthostatic balance of healthy subjects
This study aimed at assessing the impact of five different floor coverings on the orthostatic balance in 48 healthy subjects. Static posturography was performed with eyes open or closed on a platform in a control condition (no covering) and with five different covering surfaces: foam, silicone, ethyl vinyl acetate, and two textured mats with small (height 2 mm) or large pimples (7 mm). The average velocity of center of pressure (CoP) displacement was the primary endpoint measure and ten other posturographic variables were assessed. Comfort and pain produced by the covering were also scored. In eyes open condition, the aver...

TSLP in DRG neurons causes the development of neuropathic pain through T cells
Peripheral nerve injury to dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons develops intractable neuropathic pain via induction of neuroinflammation. However, neuropathic pain is rare in the early life of rodents. Here, we ...

Transcriptome Profiling of miRNA-mRNA Interactions and Associated Mechanisms in Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathic Pain
AbstractChemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain (CINP) is a dose-limiting adverse event affecting 40% of chemotherapy patients. MiRNA-mRNA interaction plays an important role in various processes. However, detailed profiling of miRNA-mRNA interactions in CINP remains unclear. Here, a rat-based CINP model was established using paclitaxel, followed by nociceptive behavioral tests related to mechanical allodynia, thermal hyperalgesia, and cold allodynia. The landscape of miRNA-mRNA interaction in the spinal dorsal horn was investigated through mRNA transcriptomics and small RNA sequencing. Under CINP condition, 86 differentiall...

Glutamatergic Neurons in the Zona Incerta Modulate Pain and Itch Behaviors in Mice
AbstractEmerging evidence suggest that parvalbumin neurons in zona incerta (ZI) modulate pain and itch behavior in opposite manners. However, the role of ZI glutamatergic neurons, a unique incertal neuronal subpopulation residing in the caudal division, in pain and itch modulation remains unknown. In the present study, by combining chemogenetic manipulation, fiber photometry, and behavioral tests, we proved that incertal glutamatergic neurons served as an endogenous negative diencephalic modulator for both pain and itch processing. We demonstrated that ZI vesicular glutamate transporter 2 (VGluT2) neurons exhibited increas...

Predictors of performance and perceived fatigability in people with multiple sclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: Preliminary findings suggest that self-reported functioning levels, including physical and perceived cognitive function, are potential predictors of performance and perceived fatigability in MS. Notably, perceived fatigue impact showed no association with performance or perceived fatigability. Future studies are warranted to confirm and extend our findings.PMID:37655601 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2023.2252283
