Intervention studies to encourage vaccination using narrative: a systematic scoping review protocol
Introduction Vaccine hesitancy is a global problem, impeding uptake of vaccines against measles, mumps, and rubella and those against human papillomavirus and COVID-19. Effective communication strategy is needed to address vaccine hesitancy. To guide the development of research in the field and the development of effective strategies for vaccine communication, this scoping review aims to analyse studies of interventions using narrative to encourage vaccination. Methods and analysis We will search the following databases: MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES. We will identify additional literature by searching the re...

What can the lessons of measles teach us about the importance of vaccines?
Karie Youngdahl on Measles Submitted by Emily on Fri, 02/13/2015 - 11:47 In 1713, Cotton Mather, a prominent Boston minister who would bring the practice of smallpox variolation to the colonies, watched helplessly as measles devastated his family. On October 18 of that year he wrote in his diary, “The Measles coming into the Town, it is likely to be a Time of Sickness, and much Trouble in the Families of the Neighbourhood.” That day his eldest son became ill. Two daughters developed measles over the next few days. Share Email Print var switc...

Immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases among paediatric healthcare workers in Denmark, 2019
ConclusionThe immunity gaps found primarily in young HCW indicate a need for a screening and vaccination strategy for this group. Considering the poor correlation between self-reported immunity and seropositivity, efforts should be made to check HCW's immune status in order to identify those who would benefit from vaccination.PMID:33928900 | PMC:PMC8086246 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2021.26.17.2001167

Measles surveillance in Canada, 2019
CONCLUSION: Despite meeting/partially meeting only three out of four of PAHO's essential criteria for measles elimination status, there is no evidence that endemic measles transmission has been reestablished in Canada.PMID:34012339 | PMC:PMC8109285 | DOI:10.14745/ccdr.v47i03a05

Childhood immunization during the COVID-19 pandemic in Texas
Vaccine. 2021 Apr 27:S0264-410X(21)00509-0. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2021.04.050. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn 2020, the state of Texas implemented coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) social distancing guidelines in order to prevent surges at Texas hospital emergency rooms and in intensive care units. As noted in other states, an unintended consequence of these activities was significant declines in childhood immunizations. After analyzing state-wide immunization register data for Texas, we observed a 47% relative decline in immunization rates between 2019 and 2020 among 5-month-olds and a 58% decline among 16-month-olds...

Pitfalls of rubella serology while on the brink of elimination: evaluation of national data, Belgium, 2017
ConclusionThis retrospective analysis shows that rubella serology results may differ considerably according to the assay used. It is therefore important to use the same test when comparing results or performing follow-up testing. The number of anti-rubella IgM analyses was very high. Incorrect use of IgM for screening women of childbearing age can lead to unwarranted anxiety and overuse of confirmation tests.PMID:34018485 | PMC:PMC8138961 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2021.26.20.2000074
