When I was in kindergarten, a stray cat found her way into our backyard in upstate New York. As is the case with most stray cats, she quickly had a litter of kittens in our basement. We gave most of them to friends and neighbors, but we kept one little black and white kitten. I don’t remember exactly how, but somehow she got the name Abby. I am writing this entirely submerged under a big pile of blankets. No part of me is sticking out. A few minutes ago, I heard Fey jump onto the bed. We bought a crinkly tube cat toy to keep the cats occupied during our attempt to train them to stay out of the bedroom (in preparation for BSparl's arrival).  More on that later, once I figure out how to actually keep them out of the damn room. Siah has claimed it as hers.  She sits in it for hours, forgetting how to get out.She looks like a dim little "cat"-erpillar, waiting to transform into a pain-in-the-butterfly.  Happy Sunday.  ;)

When I make a list of people who have helped with our move, this hobo cat is not on it. Give her a can of beans and a lighter and she's fine.  And I'm starting to wonder about that one ear there.  It's never quite straight.(Yes, posts are light this week.  My apartment is a mess, my job is grinding to a close, and my mind may have been accidentally FedEx'd to Boston.  Hoping someone signs for it.)

Kittens are the cutest things on the planet, there’s no doubt.  I could watch them for hours.  There are times when their kittenish antics make me laugh out loud. The kittens’ mothers are getting a little tired of their offspring though.  They want to be let out of their room to roam the house, and it’s harder to get them to go back in there than it was a couple of days ago. I’d like to encourage those seeking companion animals to look for a local animal rescue group from which to adopt. It’s not all purrs and frolicking here.  Not for me, anyway. I knew it wouln’t be easy taking care of 7 kittens and their 2 mothers, but I wasn’t prepared for the smell!  In no time flat, the room in which I’m keeping the cats has taken on a pretty icky odor.  I’m off work tomorrow, so I’ll spend some time cleaning up in there. I’m sure I’ll discover some hidden surprises. The cats have begun to hang out right by the door, so when I open it to go in to feed, scoop or play, they try to escape.
