Conclusions: The data suggest that a rapid and marked reduction in the incidence of genital warts among vaccinated women may be achievable through an HPV vaccination programme targeting women, and supports some benefit being conferred to heterosexual men. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Infections)

We report a case of isolated necrotizing granulomatous vasculitis of the uterine cervix in a middle-aged woman, previously healthy, and sexually active, and whose human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA hybrid capture assay was positive. Systemic involvement was not detected and, since the lesion was completely removed, we opted for a clinical follow-up. From November 2007 to November 2008, the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance reimbursed the HPV vaccine for girls aged between 12-15 years. In December 2008, the age limit was extended to include girls up to the age of 18. In November 2008, the total number of HPV vaccines sold exceeded 530,000 doses. The number of vaccines reimbursed in Belgium, for the period November 2007-November 2008, corresponds to the amount required to f...

CONCLUSIONS: This survey provides an update on sexual debut and behavior in young adults in some European countries. Estimated age at sexual debut ranged between 16 and 18 years and appeared to be later in girls than in boys. The proportion of girls sexually active before the age of 15 years was low (</=11.9%). Almost one-third of young women did not use a condom. This survey provides useful information to support current or planned HPV vaccination programs in Europe. Novel human papillomavirus type 18 replicon and its application in screening the antiviral effects of cytokinesemail this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
In this report, we developed a new system for the analysis of the HPV lifecycle. The new system consists of a novel HPV replicon and an organotypic "raft" culture, by which the HPV-DNA is maintained stably in normal human keratinocytes for a long period and the viral vegetative replication is reproduced. This system will benefit biochemical and genetic studies on the lifecycle of HPV and tumorigenesis. This system is also valuable in screening for antiviral compounds. We confirmed its usefulness by evaluating the antivirus effect of cytokines. (Cancer Sci 2009 00: 000[ndash]000) (Source: Cancer Science)

Abstract  Bypassing the local immunological defense reactions in the cervix is one of the prerequisites for human papillomaviruses (HPV) infections to progress to intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). The role of potent immunosuppressive cytokines, e.g., interleukin-10 (IL-10), depressing these local virus-specific immunological responses is incompletely studied. HPV-associated p16-expression and response to hypoxic modification of radiotherapy in head and neck cancer.email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
CONCLUSIONS: HPV/p16-expression significantly improved outcome after radiotherapy in HNSCC. Hypoxic modification improved outcome in HPV/p16-negative tumours but was of no significant benefit in HPV/p16-positive tumours, suggesting that hypoxic radioresistance may not be clinically relevant in these tumours.
