Almost two-thirds of U.S. women of reproductive age use some kind of contraception, according to the latest federal data. And millions of them use methods that contain hormones, including birth control pills, intrauterine devices (IUDs), rings, implants, injections, and patches.
Although the specifics vary from method to method, hormonal birth control generally works by halting ovulation and/or changing conditions in the uterus or cervix to prevent pregnancy. And it works well: efficacy rates approach 100% when these methods are used correctly.

Women could conceive after ovarian tumors
(Karolinska Institutet) Women receiving fertility-sparing surgery for treatment of borderline ovarian tumours were able to have children, a study from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden published in Fertility& Sterility shows. Natural fertility was preserved in most of them and only a small proportion required assisted reproductive treatment such as in vitro fertilization. Study: Preoperative Chemotherapy Useful for Mesothelioma
Oncologists in France are exploring the use of bidirectional chemotherapy as a pre-operative tool for peritoneal mesothelioma, increasing the eligibility of patients for aggressive surgery.
Their bidirectional chemotherapy — which typically includes a pemetrexed (Alimta) and cisplatin combination — is delivered directly into the abdominal cavity to reduce tumor burden and make cytoreductive surgery more manageable.

This study describes a new way of distinguishing between benign and malignant ovarian tumours, and for distinguishing between different stages of malignant tumours.
The reseachers found their prediction model was able to discriminate well between benign and malignant tumours overall.
