Characteristics of gout patients according to the laterality of nephrolithiasis: A cross ‐sectional study using helical computed tomography
ConclusionsApproximately one ‐third of gout patients had kidney stones and more than half of the patients with stones were bilateral and multiple stone carriers. Elevation of Sua might increase the stone burden in gout, leading to more severe renal dysfunction. An association between nephrolithiasis and Mets was not demonstra ted in gout patients. Diagnostic accuracy of positron emission tomography for assessment of disease activity in large vessel vasculitis
ConclusionPositron emission tomography is specific and reliable in disease activity assessment of LVV, but lacks sensitivity for detecting active disease in patients under long ‐term immunosuppressive treatment. (Source: APLAR Journal of Rheumatology)

Association of good oncological response to therapy with the development of rheumatic immune ‐related adverse events following PD‐1 inhibitor therapy
ConclusionRheumatic irAEs are relatively common with PD ‐1 inhibitor therapy, and appear to be associated with a good oncological response to therapy. Many rheumatic irAEs were not referred to rheumatological services. Prospective systematic investigation would be of benefit to explore these characteristics. (Source: APLAR Journal of Rheumatology)

Association between cumulative methotrexate dose, non ‐invasive scoring system and hepatic fibrosis detected by Fibroscan in rheumatoid arthritis patients receiving methotrexate
ConclusionsLiver fibrosis measured with Fibroscan was associated with cumulative MTX. RA patients with metabolic syndrome including high body mass index and fatty liver, had a higher risk of MTX ‐induced hepatic fibrosis. RA patients with high cumulative MTX dose, especially patients with concurrent metabolic syndrome, should be cautiously monitored for liver fibrosis. (Source: APLAR Journal of Rheumatology)

Long ‐term efficacy of repeated sodium hyaluronate injections in adult patients with Kashin‐Beck disease of the knee
ConclusionsRepeated once yearly cycles of intra ‐articular sodium hyaluronate injections may improve knee KBD symptoms during the inbetween cycle period as well as exert a significant carry‐over effect for at least 1 year after the repeated cycle. Other randomized double‐blind studies are needed to confirm the findings from our study. (Source: APLAR Journal of Rheumatology)

Low ‐density lipoprotein net charge is a risk factor for atherosclerosis in lupus patients independent of lipid concentrations
ConclusionsLow ‐density lipoprotein net charge may be considered a new independent contributor to subclinical atherosclerosis in SLE patients. The observed relationship was independent of lipid concentrations and extends the prominent role that IDL and LDL play in cardiovascular risk. (Source: APLAR Journal of Rheumatology)

Prevalence of minimal disease activity in Australian patients with Psoriatic Arthritis: Assessing the outcome of national funding criteria for biologic disease ‐modifying antirheumatic drug prescribing
ConclusionThe Australian PBS criteria, funding bDMARD prescribing for PsA, select well for MDA achievers. A high prevalence of MDA non ‐achievement remains in patients ineligible for bDMARD funding, and enthesitis in this population is more common. Inflammatory markers were not discriminators between treatment or MDA achievement groups. (Source: APLAR Journal of Rheumatology)

The impact of systemic sclerosis on health ‐related quality of life assessed by SF‐36: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionsThis meta ‐analysis showed that SSc patients had lower HRQoL than healthy controls, and SSc had negative influence on the HRQoL of patients. This indicates that clinical workers should pay more attention to SSc patients' HRQoL, so as to improve global health of patients with SSc. (Source: APLAR Journal of Rheumatology)

Elderly onset of early rheumatoid arthritis is a risk factor for bone erosions, refractory to treatment: KURAMA cohort
ConclusionBone erosions were more frequently found in EORA. Clinical remission at 1 or 2  years was not enough to protect bone erosions in the ACPA‐positive EORA patients. Optimal treatment strategies preventing radiological damage should be considered for EORA. (Source: APLAR Journal of Rheumatology)
