Nitromethane solvate was found to be more stable compared to other known solvates. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of quinapril nitromethane solvate shows intermolecular hydrogen bonding between quinapril molecule and nitromethane. Stabilization of quinapril by forming strong hydrogen bonding network as in case of co-crystals was further studied by forming co-crystal with tris(hydroxym...

Gandhimathi M, Ravi T KIndian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences 2009 71(3):311-313A simple, precise and rapid HPLC method has been developed and validated for the estimation of quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide simultaneously in combined dosage form. The mobile phase used was a mixture of 0.1% v/v triethylamine (pH 3.5), containing 1 mM of hexane sulphonic acid: acetonitrile (30:70% v/v). The detection of quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide was carried out on photo diode array detector at 220 nm. Results of the analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies. The proposed method can be successful...

BACKGROUND: Existing clinical trial data do not address whether all angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are similarly beneficial in improving survival and reducing the rate of readmission among patients with congestive heart failure. We sought to answer this question using administrative databases from Canada's 3 most populous provinces. METHODS: Using linked hospital discharge and prescription claims databases in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, we identified all patients 65 years or older who were admitted to hospital because of congestive heart failure between Jan. 1, 1998, and Mar. 31, 2002, and who...

The Ischaemia Management with Accupril post-bypass Graft via Inhibition of the coNverting Enzyme (IMAGINE) trial investigated whether early initiation (</= 7 days) of an ACEI after CABG reduced cardiovascular events in stable patients with left ventricular ejection fraction >/= 40%. Conclusions-In patients at low risk of cardiovascular events after CABG, routine early initiation of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor therapy does not appear to improve clinical outcome up to 3 years after CABG; however, it increases the incidence of adverse events, particularly early after CABG. Thus, early after CABG, initiation of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor therapy should be individualized and continually reassessed over time according to risk. Acute physiological hyperinsulinemia increases skeletal muscle capillary blood volume (CBV), presumably to augment glucose and insulin delivery. The combination of ACE inhibition plus sympathetic denervation is superior to ACE inhibitor monotherapy in the rat renal ablation model.email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
CONCLUSION: In angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor-treated SNX animals, abrogation of sympathetic overactivity provides additional renoprotection and less nitro-oxidative stress of podocytes than single interventions. The added benefits were partially blood pressure independent. PMID: 17347582 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] (Source: Nephron Experimental Nephrology)

Influence of enalapril, quinapril and losartan on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced serum concentrations of TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, IL-6 in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Immunopharmacological studies of drugs used in cardiovascular diseases provide new data concerning their modulating effect on the levels of proinflammatory cytokines, chemokines and adhesion molecules. Therefore, we have made an attempt to find out whether enalapril, quinapril and losartan (drugs used in the treatment of arterial hypertension) are able to modulate lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced proinflammatory cytokine serum concentrations (tumor necrosis factor alpha - TNF-alpha, interleukin-1beta _ IL-1beta, interleukin-6 - IL-6) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). The animals were divided into four groups as...

Inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase activity by ACE inhibitors prevents left ventricular remodeling in a rat model of heart failureemail this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
This study sought to determine whether ACE inhibitors can directly regulate MMP activity and whether this results in positive structural and functional adaptations to the heart. To this end, MMP-2 activity in LV tissue extracted from rats with an aortocaval (AV) fistula was assessed by in vitro incubation as well as in vivo treatment with captopril, lisinopril, or quinapril. Furthermore, LV size and function were determined in untreated AV fistula rats, AV fistula rats treated with lisinopril (3, 5, and 8 wk), and age-matched sham-operated controls. In vitro incubation with captopril, lisinopril, or quinapril significantly...
