Preliminary observation on predicting the need for coil extraction during microsurgery: the clip-coil ratio
Email this article to a colleague.
Save this article to My Clippings.
Discuss or comment on this article.
Conclusion In reviewing our preliminary experience, we observed that coil extraction during microsurgery was not necessary when the clip
coil ratio was ≥1.3. The ratio may serve as an indirect indicator of the amount of aneurysm tissue that can be incorporated
within a clip; however, given the small patient population, further studies are needed to validate this concept.

Conclusions Navigation using anatomical landmarks for registration is a reliable method in the localization of the TSSJ for retrosigmoid

Conclusion Although craniopharyngiomas exhibit a benign histopathological pattern, cerebrospinal fluid seeding along the surgical route
or along the CSF pathways has been observed. Ectopic recurrence of craniopharyngioma suggests that meticulous protection of
the whole surgical field and careful handling of the tumor during the operation are required. It should be emphasized that
long-term follow-up is mandatory, even in patients undergoing a total removal.

Conclusion The results of this study suggest a relationship between the decreased glutamate transporter expressions in dysplastic tissues
which,in turn, may cause increased extracellular concentrations of glutamate and FCD pathophysiology.Further studies with
larger patient populations, investigating the expression of glutamate transporters at mRNA and protein levels, are required
to clarify their roles in the pathophysiology of FCD.

Conclusions Pediatric colloid cysts are rarer than their adult counterparts due to their late detection only after manifestations of raised
intracranial pressure, visual or cognitive dysfunction or drop attacks occur. Their radiological appearance varies depending
upon the amount of mucoid content, cholesterol, proteins, and water content. The fast development of clinical manifestations
in children may be related to rapid enlargement of cyst due to higher water content within them. The transcallosal approach
is the “gold standard” of surgery and usually ensures gratifying and lasting results.

Abstract Degenerative disc disease is one of the most frequent spinal disorders. The anatomy and the biomechanics of the intervertebral
disc are very complex, and the pathomechanics of its degeneration are poorly understood. Despite this complexity and uncertainty,
great advances have been made in the field of disc replacement technology, with promising results. Difficulties are continuously
being encountered, but careful analysis of the results and intensive research and development will assist in countering these
problems. There are approximately 40 clinical reports in the literature describing various asp...

Assessment of the variability in the anatomical position and size of the subthalamic nucleus among patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease using magnetic resonance imaging

Conclusions It is now possible to directly evaluate STNs at 1.5 T with minimal image distortion, which reveals variation in STN position
and dimensions in the range of nucleus size. This puts under question the rationale of use of standard STN coordinates during
DBS surgery.

Cerebellopontine angle arachnoid cyst containing ectopic choroid plexus—case report

We present a rare and interesting case of a cerebellopontine angle cyst containing ectopic choroid plexus tissue in a 26 year-old
female. Surgical resection was performed, and histological examination confirmed the presence of choroid plexus in the cyst
wall. This is the first reported case of ectopic choroid plexus at the cerebellopontine angle in an adult. We present the
case and review the literature.

Influences of stents on the outcome of coil embolized intracranial aneurysms: comparison between a stent-remodeled and non-remodeled treatment

Conclusions Coil embolization is an effective treatment method for intracranial aneurysms, however, changes on follow-up may affect the
long-term outcome. Stent remodeling may aid in preserving and enhancing the treatment durability especially in small aneurysms.

Intracranial pressure pulse amplitude during changes in head elevation: a new parameter for determining optimum cerebral perfusion pressure?

Conclusions Head elevation is an important part of the ICP and CPP therapy in neurointensive care. When searching for the patient-specific
optimum upper body position, ICPPA may provide additional information. Providing that the cerebral autoregulation is intact,
the lowest ICPPA of a patient corresponds to the individual upper body position with the highest CPP.

Conclusions Lower brain stem hemangioblastomas in the context of VHL show an often gradual onset of signs and symptoms except for patients
who develop an obstructive hydrocephalus. Although transient surgical complications are possible, surgery provides favorable
long-term results.

Conclusion Nonaneurysmal SAH is a begnin entity, though there is a difference between pmSAH and non-pmSAH in outcome. Self-evaluations
of vitality and individual health in both groups are often experienced as reduced, thus imposing the question of whether neurological
rehabilitation should be recommended despite good neurological outcome.

Abstract Maurice Ravel (1875–1937), the great impressionist-classicist composer of many popular compositions, such as the Boléro, suffered
from a progressive disease and died following an exploratory craniotomy by Clovis Vincent. The history of his progressive
dementia and the contribution of a car accident, following which he was unable to function, have received a certain amount
of interest in the neurological literature previously, but his deadly craniotomy was not evaluated from a neurosurgery perspective.
The car accident in 1932, with the probable consequence of a mild-to-moderate traumatic brain in...

not seem to influence the outcome.
