Polyester fabric-based nano copper-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes sorbent for thin film extraction of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
In this study, in-situ preparation of copper nanoparticles under sonoheating conditions followed by coating on commercial polyester fabric is reported. Through the self-assembly interaction of thiol groups and copper nanoparticles, the modified polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) was deposited on the fabric's surface. In the next step, radical thiol-ene click reactions were implemented to create more layers of POSSs. Subsequently, the modified fabric was applied for sorptive thin film extraction of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including naproxen, ibuprofen, diclofenac, and mefenamic acid from uri...

Effect of biosolids amendment on the fate and mobility of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in a field-based lysimeter cell study
Environ Pollut. 2023 May 30:121939. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.121939. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used globally to treat and prevent illness. Biosolids change physico-chemical characteristics of soil and can affect the mobility of NSAIDs. A field-based lysimeter study evaluated the effect of three rates (0, 7, and 28 Mg ha-1) of alkaline treated biosolids (ATB) on the leaching potential of naproxen (NPX), ibuprofen (IBF), and ketoprofen (KTF) over 34 days in a sandy loam textured soil. Although all three NSAIDs in the lysimeter cells vertically migrated to deeper...

EPH115 The Effect of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs on C-Reactive Protein Levels and Mortality in Patients with Sepsis
A recent in vitro study found that ibuprofen, naproxen, and ketorolac are competitive caspase inhibitors, a promising anti-inflammatory target for septic shock treatment. However, the impact of such NSAIDs on health outcomes among patients with sepsis is unknown. (Source: Value in Health)

Hypersensitivity to Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs on a pediatric Portuguese cohort
Conclusions. The investigation of allergy to NSAID/paracetamol in children remains a challenge. In our population, ibuprofen was the most common NSAID reported. There were only 2 (4.3%) mild reactions on DPT. We could allow the use of the culprit NSAID/analgesic in 11 patients and an alternative one in 9 patients. This study highlights the importance of DPT in children for a correct diagnosis of NSAID hypersensitivity and selection of an alternative drug.PMID:37249059 | DOI:10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.299 (Source: European Annals of Allergy and Clinical Immunology)

The Efficacy of Different Triptans for the Treatment of Acute Headache in Pediatric Migraine: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: We found that rizatriptan (good tolerability profile with a dose of 5 mg) and sumatriptan (oral administration) had higher efficiency as compared to other triptans. Regardless of type or dose, all triptans are generally well tolerated by patients, but a few adverse effects such as light-headedness (sumatriptan), nasopharyngitis, and, muscular spasms (sumatriptan/ naproxen), somnolence, and dry mouth (rizatriptan), and dizziness (zolmitriptan group) were reported with the triptans.PMID:37209053 (Source: Indian Pediatrics)

Naproxen chemoprevention induces proliferation of cytotoxic lymphocytes in Lynch Syndrome colorectal mucosa
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show that daily exposure of naproxen promotes T-cell proliferation in the colonic mucosa, which paves way for developing combination of immunoprevention strategies including naproxen for LS patients.PMID:37207208 | PMC:PMC10189148 | DOI:10.3389/fimmu.2023.1162669 (Source: Cancer Control)

Microplastics as vectors of chemical contaminants and biological agents in freshwater ecosystems: Current knowledge status and future perspectives
Environ Pollut. 2023 May 15:121829. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.121829. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMicroplastics (MPs) are becoming ubiquitous, and their environmental fate is becoming an issue of concern. Our review aims to synthesize current knowledge status and provide future perspectives regarding the vector effect of MPs for chemical contaminants and biological agents. The evidence in the literature indicates that MPs are a vector for persistent organic pollutants (POPs), metals and pharmaceuticals. Concentrations of chemical contaminant in orders of six-fold higher on MPs surfaces than in the surrounding environmen...
