How I diagnose and manage VEXAS syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: Either clinicians or pathologists may suspect a diagnosis of VEXAS syndrome depending on the clinical presentation and bone marrow findings. More studies are needed to determine the best therapeutic options, which are currently limited.PMID:38511841 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqae017 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Morules and β-catenin predict POLE mutation status in endometrial cancer: A pathway to more cost-effective diagnostic procedures
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the presence of either morules or nuclear β-catenin expression in EEC could practically rule out the presence of POLE mutations. These morphologic and immunohistochemical features can be used as preliminary screening tools for POLE mutations, offering significant savings in time and resources and potentially enhancing clinical decision-making and patient management strategies. However, further validation in larger, multi-institutional studies is required to fully understand the implications of these findings on clinical practice.PMID:38513273 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqae023 (Source: Ameri...

Laboratory characterization of the pediatric B/T subtype of mixed-phenotype acute leukemia: Report of a case series
CONCLUSIONS: The accurate diagnosis of B/T MPAL requires a multidisciplinary approach combining high-tech laboratory methods and close cooperation between treating physicians and pathologists.PMID:38513276 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqae020 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Clinicopathologic correlation of dermatologic diseases in patients with darker pigmentation
CONCLUSIONS: As many clinicians are taught that there are no effective treatment options or that these diseases are considered "cosmetic" in nature, patients often do not get a thorough medical workup or skin biopsy. This article aims to decrease the knowledge gap and serve as a resource for anyone involved in the care of patients with these cutaneous conditions.PMID:38513285 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqae013 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

The carbon footprint of a surgical pathology laboratory in France
CONCLUSIONS: The pathology laboratory's carbon footprint was equivalent to the yearly carbon impact of 11 French inhabitants. This footprint is dominated by inputs and associated freight. This suggests an urgent need to develop ecodesign and self-sufficiency in our routine practices.PMID:38470223 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqae022 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)
