MicroRNA-124 influenced depressive symptoms via large-scale brain connectivity in major depressive disorder patients
This study aimed to investigate the neurobiological mechanisms by which microRNA 124 (miR-124) is involved in major depressive disorder (MDD). We enrolled 53 untreated MDD patients and 38 healthy control (HC) subjects who completed behavior assessments and resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) scans. MiR-124 expression levels were detected in the peripheral blood of all participants. We determined that miR-124 levels could influence depressive symptoms via disrupted large-scale intrinsic intra- and internetwork connectivity, including the default mode network (DMN)-DMN, dorsal attention network (DAN)-salience network (SN)...

Cognitive trajectories in older adults and the role of depressive symptoms: A 7-year follow-up study
CONCLUSIONS: Our research suggests that mild and decreasing depressive symptoms can be a reversible factor that might slow down the irreversible cognitive decline in the elderly. Therefore, we suggest that even mild depressive symptoms in the elderly should be monitored and detected.PMID:38520944 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajp.2024.104007 (Source: Asian Journal of Psychiatry)

Multivariate association between psychosocial environment, behaviors, and brain functional networks in adolescent depression
CONCLUSION: This study identified the environmental exposures associated with specific functional networks in MDD youths. Our findings emphasize the importance of the psychosocial context in assessing brain function alterations in adolescent depression and have the potential to promote targeted treatment and precise prevention.PMID:38520945 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajp.2024.104009 (Source: Asian Journal of Psychiatry)

Role of adjunctive cariprazine for treatment-resistant depression in patients with major depressive disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis provides evidence supporting the efficacy of adjunctive cariprazine in patients with refractory MDD. However, it is essential to consider the safety profile of cariprazine, particularly the increased risk of adverse events. The vigilant monitoring and management of these side effects should be integrated into clinical practice to minimize discontinuation rates and optimize patient outcomes.PMID:38513509 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajp.2024.104005 (Source: Asian Journal of Psychiatry)
