A Crosstalk between the Receptor Tyrosine Kinase-Like Orphan Receptors ROR1/2 and S1P Signaling Pathways in Lung Cancer
CONCLUSION: These findings demonstrate the reciprocal regulation of both pathways, suggesting that both pathways have an inverse relation i.e, in the absence of one pathway, another pathway may take charge of the other pathway. Therefore, simultaneously targeting both pathways could serve as a potential therapeutic target for lung cancer treatment.PMID:38546054 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.725 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Optimizing Ideal Thickness of Sections for Epidermis in Intra-Operative Frozen Sections
CONCLUSION: While mucosal margins can be obtained at the usual 5-7 microns, the same thickness is not optimal for skin margins intra-operatively. Frozen sections for the skin margins may be set at 10 microns, to save time, minimize artefacts, and for better readability.PMID:38546055 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.735 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Investigation of Plasma Cell-Free DNA and MiRNA in Cholangiocarcinoma and Opisthorchiasis Viverrini Patients
CONCLUSION: Elevated plasma concentrations of cfDNA and cf-miRNA could serve as potential diagnostic tools for distinguishing cholangiocarcinoma from other conditions. cf-miRNA was superior to cfDNA in terms of sensitivity.PMID:38546056 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.739 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Applications of Quantum Dots in Preventive Oncology
Asian Pac J Cancer Prev. 2024 Mar 1;25(3):747-756. doi: 10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.747.ABSTRACTQDs are semiconductor nanocrystalline materials with distinct optical and electronic characteristics due to their microscopic size and quantum mechanical properties. They are often composed of materials such as cadmium selenide (CdSe), cadmium telluride (CdTe), or indium phosphide (InP) and are typically in the size range of 2 to 10 nanometers in diameter. These tiny particles are used in various scientific and technological applications. Some key characteristics and applications of quantum dots are size-dependent Optical Propertie...

Association of COX-2, TNF- α, TLR4, and IKKα With Survival of Patients With Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomas: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSION: COX-2 overexpression may be associated with a poorer prognosis in oral SCC. The insufficiency of studies about TNF-α, TLR4, and IKKα restrained their validation as predictors of prognosis.PMID:38546058 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.757 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Association of the CXCL12 rs1801157 Polymorphism with Breast Cancer Risk: A Meta-Analysis
Asian Pac J Cancer Prev. 2024 Mar 1;25(3):767-776. doi: 10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.767.ABSTRACTStudies on the CXCL12 rs1801157 polymorphism show that this polymorphism is involved in development of breast cancer, but its specific relationships or effects are not consistent. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to investigate the association between CXCL12 rs1801157 polymorphism and susceptibility to breast cancer. PubMed, Scopus, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and CNKI were searched for eligible studies through February 01, 2023. A total of ten studies with 2093 cases and 2302 controls were included in this m...

Statin Use and Liver Cancer Risk: A Meta-Epidemiological Study of Retrospective Cohort Studies by the Types of Constructed Cohort
CONCLUSION: The lack of statistical significance in NPo supports the argument that the conclusions of existing systematic reviews on RSC have low validity. It is necessary to conduct a subgroup meta-analysis of the NPo, NPa, and HPa proposed in this study when conducting a systematic review of RSCs, which will evaluate various outcomes of a specific drug intake with time-varying exposure.PMID:38546060 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.777 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Risk-Stratified Breast Cancer Screening in Malaysia: Challenges and Opportunities
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION: Identifying a valid and appropriate risk model tailored to the population profile and needs of Malaysian women and conducting a pilot project of risk-stratified screening, guided by implementation science would provide lessons and insights for policymakers, health service managers, and public and primary health care professionals. The results of these activities would increase the likelihood that decisions and plans would lead to the successful implementation in Malaysia of a sustainable and effective breast cancer screening strategy that incorporates a patient-sensitive, risk-stratified appr...

Meta-Analysis of Incidence and Mortality of Firefighter Cancer: An Update on Emerging Science
CONCLUSIONS: The findings underscore the global cancer burden among firefighters, and indicate that geographically stratifying studies afford a more nuanced risk perspective. Further research should investigate why US firefighters exhibit higher cancer mortality rates compared to international counterparts.PMID:38546063 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.801 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Awareness and Acceptability for Primary Prevention of Cervical Cancer in Pakistan: A Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSION: It is important to address the knowledge gaps existing in the community about HPV vaccine acceptability and barriers against it for the successful rollout of the HPV vaccination program in Pakistan. Mass awareness campaigns about HPV, HPV vaccine, and cervical cancer are needed to increase the acceptability of HPV vaccine among public at the time of reintroducing HPV vaccine.PMID:38546064 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.813 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Prevalence of BK and JC Polyomaviruses among Patients with Breast Cancer
DISCUSSION: The findings of the current investigation demonstrate that there was an absence of JC virus detection in the breast biopsy. Additionally, a small fraction of patients diagnosed with ductal carcinoma exhibited a low prevalence of genotype IV polyomavirus BK at a rate of 2%. However, in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the incidence of BKV and JCV in breast cancer, a substantial number of breast samples must undergo investigation.PMID:38546065 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.3.821 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)
