Chenggang Wu, Xiyi Yang, Xiaofeng Tang, Shuping Zhang - Volume 77(5) Diagram of coating a catheter surface with a dopamine-modified hyaluronic acid and Pluronic F127 lubricant.Laryngeal injury and subsequent chronic complications can result from the friction between the mucosa and the tube during intubation. Here we present a lubricant coating based on hyaluronic acid. The HD-F127 coatings have great potential in biomedical devices that require lubrication, due to their simple fabrication method and excellent lubrication properties. (Image credit: Wu Chenggang.) Norhayati Abu Bakar, Joseph George Shapter - Volume 77(4) TEM images of the SERS substrates and Raman spectra of imidacloprid on their surface. This manuscript reports the first introduction of gold nanostars on silver nanostars surface as the Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) active elements to increase the SERS response towards imidacloprid pesticide. This combination of two metal nanostars showed an enhancement in imidacloprid signal at low concentrations on the AuNs/AgNs surface when compared to the signal on the surface composed of a single type of metal nanostars. The substrates were shown to be stable over a...

Transition metal element doping to optimize the photochromic properties of WO 3
Xuhui Jin, Aihua Yao - Volume 77(1) Photochromic inks and rewriting paper prepared with WO3-0.1Mo and WO3-0.1Cu.The doping of WO3 with transition metal elements significantly optimised its photochromic properties. Mo changed the colour after UV irradiation and Cu increased the fading rate of WO3. Photochromic ink and photochromic rewriting paper were prepared using the obtained photochromic powders with a cycle life of more than 50 times. (Image credit: Xuhui Jin.) Approach to achieve controlled particle size synthesis of non-polar functionalised siloxane particles using a one-pot synthesis
Rowan McDonough, Daniel Mangos, Chris Hassam, Jonathan Campbell, David A. Lewis Flow chart of two one-pot methods for silica nanoparticle synthesis from functionalised silanesA scalable methodology that allows particles based on trialkoxy siloxanes with non-polar substituents to be synthesised in a one-pot reaction through the controlled addition of the reactants is reported. By dispersing the trialkoxy silane precursor prior to addition to the reaction solution, excellent control of particle size and dispersity can be achieved for systems not normally compatible with Stober methods.
