Molecular Targets in Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Treatment.email this articleEmail this article to a colleague. save this article to My ClippingsSave this article to My Clippings. discuss this articleDiscuss or comment on this article.
Malignant mesothelioma is an aggressive tumour of the serosal surfaces with poor prognosis and increasing incidence due to widespread previous asbestos exposure. Relative chemotherapeutic and radiotherapeutic resistance makes malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) difficult to manage, even though encouraging results were achieved with multimodality treatment. Better knowledge of angiogenesis and molecular pathways involved in MPM seems to be the right way to define new targets for systemic treatment. Neoangiogenesis may be considered as a critical step in the development of mesothelioma. Vascular endothelial growth facto...

Abstract  Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease characterised by a dysregulation of multiple pathways related to cell differentiation, cell cycle control, apoptosis, angiogenesis and development of metastasis. Acting against these pathways provides therapeutic targets for new targeted biologic therapies, which, in the future, might constitute a key for fighting cancer. The development of molecular technology in recent years has allowed a further comprehension of these mutations and dysregulated pathways leading to oncogenesis. New targeted biologic therapies will block essential functions of cancer cells a...

Abstract  A globally accepted standard chemotherapy remains undetermined in gastric cancer, but the recent introduction of active “new-generation agents” such as taxanes, irinotecan (CPT-11), oxaliplatin, S-1, and capecitabine, offers hope for markedly improving patient outcomes. Docetaxel, as well as the other new-generation agents, plays a key role in the development of the new-era chemotherapy, and the incorporation of taxanes has provided several regimens, such as docetaxel/cisplatin/5-fluorouracil (5-FU) (DCF), that could become standard treatment. The DCF regimen is now regarded as a standard treatm...
