Suspected Suicide Attempts by Self-Poisoning Among Persons Aged 10-19 Years During the COVID-19 Pandemic - United States, 2020-2022
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2023 Apr 21;72(16):426-430. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7216a3.ABSTRACTThe World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020 (1). As strategies to mitigate the pandemic were implemented, concerns were raised that the containment efforts through quarantine and social distancing practices were negatively affecting the mental and physical health of children and adolescents (2). Suicide is a growing public health problem in the United States. In 2020, suicide was the second leading cause of death among persons aged 10-14 years and the third leading cause among those aged 15-24 ...

A Peculiar Case of Idiopathic Herpes-Zoster-Like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS)
We report a rare case of suspected herpes-zoster virus (HZV)-like SJS with negative HZV serum PCR and negative varicella-zoster virus (VZV) biopsy immunostaining. This rare case of SJS was resolved with the administration of IV acyclovir and Benadryl.PMID:37065287 | PMC:PMC10104479 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.36190 (Source: Herpes)

Comparison of the preventive effect of colchicine versus diphenhydramine, prednisolone, and a combination therapy on intraperitoneal adhesion bands: an experimental study in rats
Peritoneal adhesion formation is an inevitable consequence of abnormal repair of the peritoneum following different peritoneal injuries of intra-abdominal operations with the subsequent morbidity that they rep... (Source: BMC Surgery)

Multinational Study of the Efficacy and Safety of Humanized Anti-HER2 Monoclonal Antibody in Women Who Have HER2-Overexpressing Metastatic Breast Cancer That Has Progressed After Chemotherapy for Metastatic Disease
CONCLUSION: Recombinant humanized anti-HER2 monoclonal antibody, administered as a single agent, produces durable objective responses and is well tolerated by women with HER2-overexpressing metastatic breast cancer that has progressed after chemotherapy for metastatic disease. Side effects that are commonly observed with chemotherapy, such as alopecia, mucositis, and neutropenia, are rarely seen.PMID:36881998 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.22.02510 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

Child with bullous lesions of the skin
A seven-year-old female presented to the pediatric emergency department with leg lesions for more than a year. The lesions started out as dusky, pruritic patches mainly on the lower legs. After a course of triamcinolone ointment, she developed blisters on the legs, arms, and trunk. She was then started on clindamycin by her primary care physician due to concern for skin infection. After an evaluation by a dermatologist, she was diagnosed with eczema and the clindamycin was discontinued. She then began treatment with topical crisaborole ointment, monoclonal antibody ustekinumab (human interleukin-12 and -23 antagonist), dip...

Urticaria Multiforme
A 12-month-old girl presented to the emergency department with a 4-day history of a pruritic rash over her face, torso, and extremities along with 1-day of fever and swelling of the face and extremities. The child was initially diagnosed with an allergic reaction and subsequently erythema multiforme. She received diphenhydramine and antibiotics without improvement. One week prior to the onset of the rash, the child received her 6-month catch-up immunizations. Physical examination revealed generalized annular, erythematous wheals with dusky centers. Evaluation of noscapine-licorice combination effects on cough relieving in COVID-19 outpatients: A randomized controlled trial
Conclusion: Noscapine plus licorice syrup was slightly superior to diphenhydramine in relieving cough symptoms and dyspnea in the COVID-19 outpatients. The severity of cough and cough-related quality of life were also significantly better in the noscapine plus licorice syrup. Noscapine plus licorice may be a valuable treatment in relieving cough in COVID-19 outpatients. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

A Hematological and Histopathological Study on Diphenhydramine Nasal Nano-gel and Nano-emulgel for the Management of Allergic Rhinitis in Animal Model
In this study, we conducted experiment on New Zealand white male rabbits to prove our hypothesis that nasal diphenhydramine nano-gel and nano-emulgel can penetrate the nasal mucosa faster to show drug response and subside histaminic symptoms than market nasal spray (as reference). Blood samples from 48 New Zealand white male rabbits, under both experimental conditions (physiological and pathological) divided into four groups for each (n = 6) were investigated after inducing each dosage form intranasally. Hematologic parameters (WBCs, RBCs, HGB, PLTs, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, granulocyte counts) were analyzed in...
