Evaluation of outpatient prescription patterns of COVID-19 drugs in Iran: comparison of real practice with local therapeutic recommendations
ConclusionIn this study, we showed frequent use of drugs with unproven efficacy in outpatient cases of Covid-19 mostly attributed to corticosteroids and antibiotics use. Our research highlights the discrepancy between recommendations for care and clinical practice and the need for strategy to bridge gaps in evidence-based informed decision-making. Lifting the Shade on Pediatric Acute Care Delirium —an Underrecognized Problem
Dr. Hadley Presenters: Nicholas Beam, MD, Jeri Kessenich, MD, Jillian Bybee, MD, and Brett Leingang, MD Delirium is underrecognized in the pediatric acute care spaces, both in the intensive care unit and on the general medical floors. Studies have reported that the incidence of pediatric delirium is 20% to 65% of pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patients and 10% to 40% of all hospitalized children.1 Delirium is defined in the DSM-5 as a disturbance in attention and alertness, with an abrupt change from baseline, which fluctuates, is not explained by pre-existing neurocognitive disorders, and has evidence of a cause.2 ...

Supportive care and antiviral treatments in primary herpetic gingivostomatitis: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Although PHGS is a disease with a high worldwide prevalence, the lack of consensus about therapeutic management indicates gaps in existing evidence. Most of the proposed treatment consists in symptomatic drugs with empiric regimens which are ineffective for the viral replication. The main limit to realize randomized clinical trial is due to the rapid onset and remission of the disease. In fact, the diagnostic delay, estimated in 72 h, decreases the effectiveness of any antiviral drugs.CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Out of the five studies included in this systematic review, only one was able to provide some weak evidence...

A case of diphenhydramine intoxication showing prolonged false positive tricyclic antidepressant in the urine assay
CONCLUSION: The present case suggests that diphenhydramine overdose may cause cerebellar ataxia and show prolonged cross-reactivity as TCA in the urine.PMID:37706054 | PMC:PMC10423011 | DOI:10.2478/abm-2023-0042 (Source: Biomed Res)
