Effects of Blindness on Sleep/Wakefulness States in Mice
Biol Pharm Bull. 2023;46(8):1152-1155. doi: 10.1248/bpb.b23-00210.ABSTRACTTo examine the effects of blindness on sleep/wakefulness states, we compared locomotor activity and delayed recovery from isoflurane anesthesia induced by hypnotics during light and dark periods in sighted CBA/N and blind CBA/J mice. Locomotor activity around the switch from the dark to light period significantly differed in both mice. Delayed recovery induced by brotizolam was attenuated in both periods in CBA/J mice. In addition, the period specificity of delayed recovery caused by suvorexant or diphenhydramine in CBA/N mice was abolished in CBA/J ...

Development of Bitter-Taste Masked Instant Jelly Formulations of Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride with Easy-to-Consume Granules
This study developed easy-to-consume bitter taste-masking granules for the preparation of instant jelly formulations. Composite granules containing diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPH) and polymers were prepared via spray drying. The taste-masking effect on DPH was evaluated with acceptable linearity between DPH concentration and intensity of bitterness using an electronic tongue sensor. The results indicated that ι-carrageenan could provide the greatest suppression effect on the DPH bitterness among the polymers selected for preparing spray-dried particles (SDPs). The thixotropic index (TI) of ι-carrageenan was higher th...

Pressure sensitive adhesives and paper spray-mass spectrometry for the collection and analysis of fentanyl-related compounds from shipping materials
J Forensic Sci. 2023 Jul 26. doi: 10.1111/1556-4029.15320. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rise of fentanyl and fentanyl analogs in the drug supply pose serious threats to public health. Much of these compounds enter the United States through shipping routes. Here we provide a method for fentanyl screening and analysis that utilizes pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) lined paper to recover drug residues from parcel-related surfaces. The paper used is commercially available repositionable notes (also called post-it or sticky notes). From this paper, mass spectra were obtained by paper spray-mass spectrometry (PS-MS), where...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 3774: Establishment and Molecular Characterization of an In Vitro Model for PARPi-Resistant Ovarian Cancer
Jan Dominik Kuhlmann Overcoming PARPi resistance is a high clinical priority. We established and characterized comparative in vitro models of acquired PARPi resistance, derived from either a BRCA1-proficient or BRCA1-deficient isogenic background by long-term exposure to olaparib. While parental cell lines already exhibited a certain level of intrinsic activity of multidrug resistance (MDR) proteins, resulting PARPi-resistant cells from both models further converted toward MDR. In both models, the PARPi-resistant phenotype was shaped by (i) cross-resistance to other PARPis (ii) impaired susceptibility toward the for...
