PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway: an important driver and therapeutic target in triple-negative breast cancer
Breast Cancer. 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1007/s12282-024-01567-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTriple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly heterogeneous tumor lacking estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) expression. It has higher aggressiveness and metastasis than other subtypes, with limited effective therapeutic strategies, leading to a poor prognosis. The phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway is prevalently over-activated in human cancers and contributes to breast cancer (BC) gro...

The usefulness of artificial intelligence in breast reconstruction: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: In breast reconstruction, AI can help the surgeon by optimizing the perioperative patients' counseling to predict negative outcomes, allowing execution of timely interventions and reducing the postoperative burden, which leads to obtaining the most successful results and improving patient satisfaction.PMID:38619786 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-024-01582-6 (Source: Breast Cancer)

Inter- and intra-observer variability of qualitative visual breast-composition assessment in mammography among Japanese physicians: a first multi-institutional observer performance study in Japan
CONCLUSIONS: Qualitative visual assessment of mammographic breast composition using the new Japanese classification revealed excellent intra-observer reproducibility. However, persistent inter-observer variability, presenting a challenge in establishing it as the gold standard in Japan.PMID:38619787 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-024-01580-8 (Source: Breast Cancer)

Acute adverse events of ultra-hypofractionated whole-breast irradiation after breast-conserving surgery for early breast cancer in Japan: an interim analysis of the multi-institutional phase II UPBEAT study
CONCLUSIONS: Acute AEs following ultra-HF-WBI were within acceptable limits among Japanese women, indicating that the continuation of the study was appropriate.PMID:38607499 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-024-01577-3 (Source: Breast Cancer)

Sacituzumab govitecan in metastatic triple-negative breast cancer patients treated at Institut Curie Hospitals: efficacy, safety, and impact of brain metastases
CONCLUSIONS: The observed response rate and safety of SG are consistent with the results of the ASCENT trial, with efficacy observed in patients with brain metastases, but observed PFS and OS are numerically shorter.PMID:38600429 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-024-01565-7 (Source: Breast Cancer)

Association between quality of life and mortality risk in patients with breast cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Physical QOL, emotional QOL, and role QOL are associated with mortality risk in patients with breast cancer. Furthermore, post-treatment physical QOL showed a more significant association with prolonged survival than pre-treatment physical QOL.PMID:38592636 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-024-01581-7 (Source: Breast Cancer)

The Japanese breast cancer society clinical practice guidelines for radiation treatment of breast cancer, 2022 edition
We present the English version of the Radiation Therapy (RT) section of the guidelines. The JBCS formed a task force to update the 2018 version of the JBCS Clinical Practice Guidelines. The Background Questions (BQs) contain the standard treatments for breast cancer in clinical practice, whereas the Clinical Questions (CQs) address daily clinical questions that remain controversial. Future Research Questions (FRQs) explore the subjects that are considered important issues, despite there being insufficient data for inclusion as CQs. The task force selected the 12 BQs, 8 CQs, and 6 FRQs for the RT section. For each CQ, syste...
