Angle closure extent, anterior segment dimensions and intraocular pressure
Conclusions The extent of angle closure and the ACD below a certain threshold had a significant joint association with IOP. These parameters, as biometrical surrogates of mechanical obstruction of the aqueous outflow, may jointly contribute to elevated IOP, particularly in women with gonioscopic angle closure. Comparison of long-term astigmatic changes following cataract surgery among types of corneal astigmatism
Conclusion Long-term corneal astigmatic changes towards ATR astigmatism occurred to a similar extent in eyes having ATR, WTR, oblique astigmatism and were comparable between eyes with and without surgery, suggesting that astigmatism type need not be considered when planning astigmatism correction. Lens capsule-related complications in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery: a study based on video analysis
Conclusion The most common causes of incomplete capsulotomies were eye tilt and air bubbles or ocular secretions at the interface. Secondary capsulorhexis after incomplete capsulotomy is the main risk factor for AC tears. There was a steep learning curve for laser capsulotomy in the first 100 operated eyes, as evidenced by the higher complication rate, but this stabilised after 200 procedures. Ocular adverse events associated with chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy: a case series and review
Conclusions The increasing use of CAR T therapy for malignancies underscores the importance of ophthalmologists and oncologists understanding the potential toxicities associated with its use, particularly ocular toxicities and when to refer for an ophthalmic examination. Spaceflight associated neuro-ocular syndrome: proposed pathogenesis, terrestrial analogues, and emerging countermeasures
Spaceflight associated neuro-ocular syndrome (SANS) refers to a distinct constellation of ocular, neurological and neuroimaging findings observed in astronauts during and following long duration spaceflight. These ocular findings, to include optic disc oedema, posterior globe flattening, chorioretinal folds and hyperopic shifts, were first described by NASA in 2011. SANS is a potential risk to astronaut health and will likely require mitigation prior to planetary travel with prolonged exposures to microgravity. While the exact pathogenesis of SANS is not completely understood, several hypotheses have been proposed to expla...

At a glance
Ocular adverse events associated with chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy: a case series and review (see page 901) Ocular complications associated with CAR-T therapy at a comprehensive cancer centre were identified and corroborated with results from an analysis of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS). Lens capsule-related complications in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery: a study based on video analysis (see page 906) Femtosecond laser capsulotomy is relatively stable after 200 procedures. There are several causes for incomplete capsulotomy. Secondary capsulorrhexis after incomplete capsulotomy is...

Scleral growth stunting via sub-Tenon injection of cross-linking solutions in live rabbits
Conclusions Cross-linking solutions delivered via sub-Tenon injection provide a potential method for limiting axial length growth in progressive myopia and could be used as a potential treatment for myopia. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

National trends in surgical subspecialisation in ophthalmology in the USA
Conclusions There is a trend towards surgical subspecialisation in ophthalmology in the USA whereby some surgeons focus their surgical practice on subspecialty procedures and rarely perform surgeries in the core domain. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Association of progressive optic disc tilt with development of retinal nerve fibre layer defect in children with large cup-to-disc ratio
Conclusion In this cohort of Korean children with large vCDR, progressive optic disc tilt in the course of myopia progression was associated with higher RNFLD-development risk. This finding suggests that morphological alterations in the ONH during axial elongation might represent an underlying susceptibility to glaucomatous damage in large-vCDR children. Higher-order aberrations and their association with axial elongation in highly myopic children and adolescents
Conclusion In highly myopic children and adolescents, lower levels of annual ocular secondary horizontal comatic aberration changes, besides spherical aberrations, were associated with axial elongation. This suggests that ocular HOA plays a potential role in refractive development in high myopia. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Risk factors for epiretinal membrane in eyes with primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment that received silicone oil tamponade
Conclusion In eyes with RRD that received SO tamponade, the prevalence of ERM was 12.3%, while the accuracy of preoperative ERM diagnosis was low. Preoperative PVR, type 2 diabetes, photocoagulation energy and SOTT were the main risk factors for ERM. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Quantitative analysis of optical coherence tomography imaging in patients with different severities of hydroxychloroquine toxicity
Conclusions Quantitative analysis of OCT scans revealed significant differences between eyes with and without toxicity in two different measures. Each individual metric could discriminate between the unaffected and the lowest severity category, suggesting their potential utility in screening for HCQ toxicity in patients at risk. Hemiretinal vein occlusion 12-month outcomes are unique with vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors: data from the Fight Retinal Blindness! Registry
Conclusions HRVO generally experienced the greatest mean change in VA of the three types of RVO when treated with VEGF inhibitors, ending with similar 12-month VA and CST to BRVO despite starting closer to CRVO. Inclusion of HRVO in BRVO or CRVO cohorts of clinical trials would be expected to proportionally inflate and skew the visual and anatomic outcomes. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)
