Choriocapillaris perfusion assessed using swept source optical coherence tomographic angiography and the severity of diabetic retinopathy
Conclusion Quantitative FD density, number and size assessed by using SS-OCTA were independently correlated with the severity of DR. The assessment of the CC perfusion metrics in the macula may be a sensitive biomarker of DR changes. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Serum complement component 3, complement component 4 and complement component 1q levels predict progressive visual field loss in older women with primary angle closure glaucoma
Conclusion Decreased C3, C4 and C1q levels at baseline were significantly associated with a greater risk of VF loss progression only in older women with PACG. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Intraocular pressure and diurnal fluctuation of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension: a baseline report from the LiGHT China trial cohort
Conclusions Younger age, male gender and thicker CCT are correlated to higher IOP in POAG patients while only thicker CCT is related to higher IOP in OHT patients. Peak IOP appears mostly at early morning or late afternoon and trough value occurs mostly at early afternoon. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Relationship between macular intercapillary area measured by optical coherence tomography angiography and central visual field sensitivity in normal tension glaucoma
Conclusion ICA enlargement could be a potentially important disease marker of early NTG as reflected by its association with GCIPL thinning and decrease CVFS specifically for early NTG eyes. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Relationship of macular ganglion cell complex thickness to choroidal microvasculature drop-out in primary open-angle glaucoma
Conclusion In POAG eyes, GCC thinning is faster in eyes with MvD. Detection of MvD in OCT-A images can assist clinicians to identify patients who are at higher risk for central macula thinning and glaucomatous progression and may require more intensive management. Optimal number and orientation of anterior segment OCT images to measure ocular biometric parameters in angle closure eyes: the Chinese American Eye Study
Conclusions Sectoral anatomical variations in angle closure eyes are easily misrepresented based on current AS-OCT imaging conventions. A revised multi-image approach can better capture the mean and range of biometric measurements. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on uveitis patient care
Conclusions Uveitis patient care has changed significantly since the beginning of the pandemic. The recommendations will continue to evolve as new data on IMTs and vaccination become available. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Uveal lymphoid hyperplasia: treatment with combination antibiotics and steroids
Conclusions In this small cohort of patients with uveal lymphoid hyperplasia, measurable and sustained clinical responses were observed with antibiotics/steroids, without systemic recurrence. This suggests combination antibiotic/steroid therapy is a reasonable treatment for select cases of uveal lymphoid hyperplasia, and may avoid the need for systemic chemotherapy/monoclonal antibody and/or external beam irradiation. Changing operating room practices: the effect on postoperative endophthalmitis rates following cataract surgery
Conclusions Adopting a set of four temporary OR protocols that are often mandatory in the Western world did not reduce the POE rate. Along with previously published studies, these results challenge the necessity of these common practices which may be needlessly costly and wasteful, arguing for the reevaluation of empiric and potentially unnecessary guidelines that govern ophthalmic surgeries. Novel ADAMTSL4 gene mutations in Chinese patients with isolated ectopia lentis
Conclusions This study reported five IEL probands with eight novel mutations in the ADAMTSL4 gene. The clinical IEL phenotypes caused by these mutations were variable and complex. This study thus establishes the ADAMTSL4 gene mutation frequency and expands the gene’s mutation spectrum to help recognise ADAMTSL4-related IEL clinical manifestations. Diffuse pattern, orbital invasion, perineural invasion and Ki-67 are associated with nodal metastasis in patients with eyelid sebaceous carcinoma
Conclusions We identified risk factors for nodal metastasis and developed a nomogram to provide individualised estimates of nodal metastasis for eyelid SC patients and guide postoperative management. This nomogram contained clinicopathological factors besides the T category of the TNM staging system and suggesting great clinical value. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Treatment strategies and long-term outcomes in patients with congenital microphthalmia-anophthalmia with cyst
Conclusion The favourable long-term outcomes in this study have resulted from bespoke plans which considered periocular tissue development, regional orbital growth and orbital volume replacement. The authors contemplate cyst excision if the prosthetic fitting or retention is impeded by the cyst as this often heralds the increased risk of long-term periocular distortion.
