New presenting symptoms of Chiari I malformation: report of two cases
Email this article to a colleague.

Conclusions These case reports can suggest the association of hemihypertrophy and claw hand with Chiari I malformation and syringomyelia.
Further studies are necessary to assess the real incidence of focal motor deficits and mesodermic disorders in Chiari I malformation
in order to clarify their pathogenetical mechanisms.

Conclusion We have found aberrant tractography pathway traversing through the external capsule, connecting two distant foci of epileptiform

Chronic uncal herniation secondary to posterior fossa shunting: case report and literature review

Discuss or comment on this article.
Conclusion We conclude that a negative pressure gradient in the posterior fossa, relative to the supratentorial compartment, is the etiology
of the chronic uncal herniation in our patient. Comparing the case reports in the literature with our case, we postulate that
chronic uncal herniation is a complication of shunting of a posterior fossa fluid cavity in children, many of them with Dandy–Walker
syndrome and/or other cerebellar cystic formations. The treatment priority at presentation should be to rule out shunt malfunction.
In the event of association with clinical over-drainage syndrome, there may be a ...

irradiation. All 20 cases achieved tumor shrinkage or stabilization with effective outcome 3–6 months after the last [32P] therapy. We report
a rare case of a large symptomatic spinal epidural CSF collection shortly after lumbar puncture presenting with severe leg

of the epidural collection. Review of the literature revealed that epidural CSF collections resolve with conservative measures
without the need for surgical intervention even in the setting of significant neurological symptomatology.

be achieved at surgery. Tumor recurrence or progression of the residual lesion should be strictly observed. In some aspects,
childhood piloA remains an enigmatic tumor.

Long-term significance of injury to the supraorbital or supratrochlear nerves during frontoorbital advancement in infancy

Conclusions It is concluded that (1) anatomical transsection of the supraorbital or supratrochlear nerve in very young patients may be
functionally fully compensated over time, (2) the preservation of the supraorbital or supratrochlear nerve in frontoorbital
advancement in patients less than 1 year of age is of no major significance in the long term and (3) partial anatomical preservation
with functional impairment of the nerves may result in dysesthesias in the forehead. Therefore, from a practical surgical
standpoint, deliberate anatomical transsection in this age group may be superior to partial morp...

Conclusion Diabetes insipidus as a presenting symptom of ganglioglioma is extremely rare. This benign tumor should be kept in mind in
patients with central diabetes insipidus and a suprasellar mass lesion. This report describes the second such case in the
literature.

We report an extremely rare case of multiple saccular aneurysms of the extracranial and intracranial internal carotid artery
associated with convexobasia of the left temporal region and arachnoid cyst in a 6-year-old boy.
Case Report A 6-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital with chief complaint of ptosis and engorgement of the left eyelid for
50 days. A 4 × 10-cm bony protuberance of the left temporal region with hemangiectasia was observed to beat with pulse without
vascular murmur. computed tomographic angiography (CTA) showed two saccular aneurysms of the left internal caroti...

Conclusions Given the high incidence of hydrocephalus and/or tonsillar herniation that occurs in M-CMTC, serial neuroimaging studies and

Chiari I malformation after cranial radiation therapy in childhood: a dynamic process associated with changes in clival growth

Conclusions In these children, restriction of clival growth occurred after RT for suprasellar tumors. Changes in clival growth were associated
with changes in the extent of tonsillar herniation. This supports the importance of the small posterior fossa and reduced
clival length in the etiology of CMI.

Conclusion Here, we illustrate the potential of a structured follow-up analysis, based on neuropsychological testing. We were able to
distinguish separate time-courses for neurological functions but even more distinct within complex neuropsychological processes.
This time-dependent recovery should be considered when designing longitudinal follow-up studies.

Conclusion The prevalence rates of Horner's syndrome, OMA, CNS metastasis, and SCC were found to be 3.6%, 1.8%, 2.2%, and 9.4%, respectively.
Metastasis to the CNS indicated a very poor prognosis. No differences in neurological improvement in patients with SCC were
found between those treated with radiotherapy, laminectomy, or chemotherapy alone, but laminectomy and radiotherapy caused
significant late sequelae. Early diagnosis and proper management is critical to avoid long-term sequelae in patients with
SCC.

Conclusions Based on our nonrandomized retrospective monocentric analysis, patients treated with less invasive stereotactic and radiotherapeutical
methods have a more favorable long-term clinical outcome compared to children treated with a more radical microsurgical approach.
Due to the possible implications of these results, further prospective trials should be encouraged.
