Chemokines during anaphylaxis: the importance of CCL2 and CCL2-dependent chemotactic activity for basophils
ConclusionsOur findings imply an important and specific role for CCL2-mediated chemotactic activity in the pathophysiology of human anaphylaxis. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)

Epigenome-wide association study identifies DNA methylation markers for asthma remission in whole blood and nasal epithelium
ConclusionWe identified DNA methylation markers possibly associated with clinical and complete asthma remission in nasal brushes and whole blood, and two CpG sites identified from whole blood can be replicated in independent cohorts and may play a role in peroxisome proliferation and Wnt signaling pathway. A novel ELISA method to determine human MrgX2 in chronic urticaria
ConclusionMrgX2-ELISA provides a useful and convenient method for detecting MrgX2 in whole blood samples. The MrgX2-ELISA will help improve the understanding of the role of MrgX2 in regulating chronic urticaria. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)

Penicillin and cephalosporin cross-reactivity: role of side chain and synthetic cefadroxil epitopes
ConclusionsCross-reactivity with CX in AX allergic patients is 35%, being ST not enough for prediction. R1, although critical for recognition, is not the unique factor. The synthetic determinants of CX,  1-(HOPhG-Ser-Bu) and  2-(pyrazinone) are promising tools for determining in vitro cross-reactivity to CX in AX allergic patients. Nrf2-interacting nutrients and COVID-19: time for research to develop adaptation strategies
AbstractThere are large between- and within-country variations in COVID-19 death rates. Some very low death rate settings such as Eastern Asia, Central Europe, the Balkans and Africa have a common feature of eating large quantities of fermented foods whose intake is associated with the activation of the Nrf2 (Nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2) anti-oxidant transcription factor. There are many Nrf2-interacting nutrients (berberine, curcumin, epigallocatechin gallate, genistein, quercetin, resveratrol, sulforaphane) that all act similarly to reduce insulin resistance, endothelial damage, lung injury and cytokine st...

Highlights and recent developments in allergic diseases in EAACI journals (2019)
AbstractThe European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) owns three journals: Allergy, Pediatric Allergy and Immunology and Clinical and Translational Allergy. One of the major goals of EAACI is to support health promotion in which prevention of allergy and asthma plays a critical role and to disseminate the knowledge of allergy to all stakeholders including the EAACI junior members. There was substantial progress in 2019 in the identification of basic mechanisms of allergic and respiratory disease and the translation of these mechanisms into clinics. Better understanding of molecular and cellular mechanisms...

IgE-binding to vicilin-like antimicrobial peptides is associated with systemic reactions to macadamia nut
ConclusionVLAP proteins are the first described macadamia nut components with serological and functional allergenic properties and they are associated with systemic reactions to macadamia nut. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)

Hereditary angioedema caused by a premature stop codon mutation in the SERPING1 gene
ConclusionsThree known and six novel mutations in theSERPING1 gene were identified, and they produced a truncated nonfunctional C1 inhibitor without a reactive central loop. All the mutations led to reduced expression ofSERPING1 mRNA in peripheral blood and low antigenic C1 inhibitor levels. (Source: Clinical and Translational Allergy)

Drug-related relapses in drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS)
ConclusionPatients with DRESS frequently suffered from drug related relapses. Half of the patients with drug-related relapses developed a MDH with proven sensitizations not only to the DRESS inducing drugs, but also to newly applied drugs. When not sensitized, drugs involved in drug related relapses could be reintroduced, if needed. Here, we propose a procedure for drug testing and future management of drug-related relapses in DRESS.
