Abstract: The aims of this study were to develop diagnostic criteria of Internet addiction for college students (DC-IA-C) with diagnostic interviews and to establish the optimal cutoff points of the Chen Internet Addiction Scale (CIAS) for the purposes of screening for and making the diagnosis of Internet addiction. A total of 216 college students (132 male and 84 female) were recruited in the study. The results demonstrated that 5/6 cutoff points of criteria A in DC-IA-C had the best diagnostic accuracy (95.9%). Besides, 63/64 and 67/68 cutoff points of the CIAS were evaluated to be the best screening and diagnostic cutof...

This study investigated the relationship between alexithymia, depressive symptoms, and Youth Self-Report (YSR) self-image profiles among 13 to 18-year-old adolescents (n = 7087) attending school in Kuopio, Finland. The final sample consisted of 3936 adolescents (1801 boys, 2135 girls) who completed structured self-rating questionnaires (Toronto Alexithymia Scale [TAS] 20, Beck Depression Inventory [BDI], and YSR) during class periods at school. The overall prevalence of alexithymia was 7.3%. However, girls in all age groups were more frequently alexithymic than boys. Regardless of sex, alexithymic youths reported more depr...

Conclusion: Parents of eating-disordered participants displayed personality characteristics that differed from controls and, among ED subgroups, these differences were related to their daughter's personality and psychopathology. The linear correlation did not fully explain the relationship of the parental personality traits to the presence of their daughter's ED, suggesting that a more complex personality-based family dynamic is involved. A Temperament and Character Inventory profile of the entire family may be used in the planning of family treatment. (Source: Comprehensive Psychiatry)

Abstract: Determining how personality disorder traits and panic disorder and/or agoraphobia relate longitudinally is an important step in developing a comprehensive understanding of the etiology of panic/agoraphobia. Conclusions: In spite of certain weaknesses of the study, we may conclude that current definition of remission is primarily a symptomatic measure, covering a subset of symptoms, some of which are not schizophrenia-specific. Although the definition may be clinically relevant, we must be aware of the risk that the connotation of the word could induce too much focus on symptom control. (Source: Comprehensive Psychiatry)

The present investigation examined whether, in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders insight is associated with specific symptom dimensions including delusional severity. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that most WHOQOL-BREF items do not exhibit DIF for a current major depressive episode and the variance associated with depression in this generic QOL measure is restricted to some facets of this construct.
