Please Take A Moment To Read
Hi everyone, I have a big request for all of you! If you could please take a couple minutes to read this thread I would greatly appreciate it. I am currently a senior in high school and in order to graduate I have to create a senior project that relates to something powerful in my life. I think most of us can agree on that fact that CF is one of the most impacting/ powerful things in our lives. I want to create a book filled with writings from you guys. I want us to be able to share our story, our CF journey. I'm reaching out to all of you, asking you to do one thing for me. Please write to me. I want to know how CF has i...

I need some help with a uni artwork!
Hi everyone, My name is Charlotte and I'm from Melbourne. I'm trying to reach a broad CF audience and I thought this might be a good spot! I have CF and I'm currently in my final semester of my Fine Art degree, working with the idea of the many forms of isolation experienced in CF. If anyone is willing to, contributions from CF sufferers would be very valued!! I'm collecting hand written responses (if you have a young child maybe they'd like to do a drawing?) so, an image of your hand written response of how you personally interpret isolation in CF in however long, short, literal or abstract as you like! They can ...

I want to make friends with people who understand me.
Hi there I'm Isabel and I'm 16 going on 17 in 2 months. I was just diagnosed with CF last year about 7 months after I began becoming sick. It's been a crazy year since it all started and I never new my life would change so much. I can't play my favorite sport anymore, my life plan has become difficult because of school, and even though I was just diagnosed I am in a severe state. Last year my lung function Dropped to 20% and 5 months later went back to 100. Now which is 8 months later I am at 50%. I stopped doing my treatments and taking my medication, I don't know I just don't want to do them anymore, I gave up on them. I...

What I wish my teachers/ school counselor knew about CF
Hello to everyone! I am a school counselor in NC and am learning about CF in a course I am taking. As I have read through many of your posts, it seems that there are many things that your school system is lacking to implement, that would benefit you in your school setting. I know that there are IEP's, 504 plans, and health plans that can be beneficial in assisting you while at school, but I'm curious as to what we can do to help make the transition at school easier for you. Basically, what are some things that would could do from a school perspective, to better serve you? I'm interested in learning how to assist future stu...

Missing School
To whoever may be reading this- I'm struggling with school. I have an endless amount of absences and my grades aren't nearly as good as they have been. I was hospitalized for the first time in February of this year. I missed about three weeks of school and ever since I haven't had the time to fully catch up on everything. After returning from the hospital, I went to see my school counselor to set me up with online school and eliminated some of the classes I was taking. Doing so only helped me only for a short time. I currently take three classes at my high school and three classes online. I just recently cultured out MAC a...

mental health-bad drug reaction
Hi all My son has DD508 and depression. We have just discovered that his moods went very low when he was on a certain antibiotic called Akamin (mincycline) and as soon as he came off it things started to improve. He stopped crying for no reason, being angry and argumentative all the time and wanting to end his life. It wasnt the cure for his depression and he is on antidepressants but it made a huge difference. His doctors had not come across such a reaction before, anyone heard of this happening? Mumof1 (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Teenagers and Young People Forum)

I was treated like a freak
So regulations apparently say that I must wear a mask in the cf clinic and anyone who's in contact with me must wear a full gown, mask, and gloves. Like I have the worlds first zombie plague lol its actually very depressing. Anyone else feel the same way? New regulations btw (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Teenagers and Young People Forum)

Was it hard leaving home?
Have many people here moved away from their parents, when going to college or just growing up? How did you find the experience, what did you find difficult about it? (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Teenagers and Young People Forum)

Stomach distension
Hi everybody. This is my first post and I just have a quick question. No matter what I do (I always take my enzymes and everything and exercise a ton) my stomach sticks out (like I look pregnant). It's awful looking and I hate it and I was wondering if anyone knew the cause of this or any tricks to help it (I don't even know if it's a CF problem). Thanks in advance! Throat cultures
I was wondering when your primary care doctor (Not your CF doctor) cultures your throat, let's say for Strep, do they ONLY look for the strep bacteria? Or if you had something else growing would it usually pop up on the culture? I was wondering if it was possible to miss other bacteria, if they only look for one specific type. Thank you. My Facebook rant to all those people who annoy me about Cystic Fibrosis
To those of you who don't know what Cystic Fibrosis is, here's the definition from the CDC: "Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic, progressive, and frequently fatal genetic (inherited) disease of the body’s mucus glands. CF primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems in children and young adults. The sweat glands and the reproductive system are also usually involved. On the average, individuals with CF have a lifespan of approximately 30 years. CF-like disease has been known for over two centuries. The name CF of the pancreas, was first applied to the disease in 1938." Hugest pet peeve is when people a...
