Utility of liquid-based cytology in endometrial pathology: diagnosis of endometrial carcinomaEmail this article to a colleague. Save this article to My Clippings. Discuss or comment on this article.
Conclusions: The results of this study revealed that applying diagnostic criteria used in CCP to LBC was easy to achieve, because LBC had excellent cytoarchitectural preservation and cells were well presented. Although we have not examined all cytological features of malignancy and have not considered atypical hyperplasia, we believe that this method may be a useful tool in the diagnosis of endometrial cytology. Conclusion: These results indicated that EMMPRIN expression correlates significantly with the degree of dedifferentiation of thyroid carcinoma. Conclusions: FNA is an important tool for assessing the cause of lymphadenopathy in HIV patients. Necrotizing inflammation is more often seen in patients with low CD4 counts. AFB are commonly found in necrotic aspirates with or without granulomas. However, a stain for AFB should be performed in all aspirates from HIV-related lymphadenopathy including reactive hyperplasia. Conclusions: The penile skin-lined neovagina of transsexual women can reflect the cytological findings present in biological women. However 'normal' cervical cytology, with superficial, intermediate and parabasal cells as well as Döderlein bacilli, was found in only 4% of transsexual women. Conclusions: FNAC should be evaluated carefully regarding the presence of SRCs when cells with a plasmacytoid appearance are observed in either hyper- or hypocellular smears. The presence of single SRCs in FNACs with hypercellularity, high nuclear grade and tubular formation or tumour giant cells may be a clue in favour of ductal carcinoma. The presence of single SRCs in FNACs with hypocellularity and mild to moderate nuclear grade may be suggestive of lobular carcinoma. However, larger studies would be needed to establish the predictive value of the presence of SRCs on FNAC. (Source: Cytopathology)
