Conclusions In the present study, there are no significant differences between the EE and FEE with regard to the time of the appearance
and the rate of propagation of IMC. These results suggest that the effect of functional end-to-end anastomosis on postoperative
motility is not different from that of hand-sewn end-to-end anastomosis.

Adsorptive Depletion of α4 Integrinhi- and CX3CR1hi-Expressing Proinflammatory Monocytes in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis

Conclusions We found high expressions of α4 integrin and CX3CR1 on monocytes in patients with active UC, known to promote the extravasation of CD14+CD16+ monocytes into the mucosa. GMA effectively depletes CD14+CD16+ monocytes and concomitantly increases CD14hiCD16−CCR2low “immature” monocytes; thus GMA was associated with the emergence of less inflammatory monocyte phenotype in circulation.

Conclusions RC-3095 reduced the colitis severity in a well-established experimental model of IBD. The anti-inflammatory activity of this

GRP pathway might represent a potential new strategy for the treatment of ulcerative colitis that deserves further investigational
studies.

Trends in Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease as Measured by the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey

Conclusions The frequency of ambulatory visits in the United States for gastroesophageal reflux disease increased significantly between
1995 and 2006. The use of PPI therapy is increasing even more substantially. Older age, female gender, and use of calcium
channel blockers were associated with a higher frequency of GERD visits. Health-care utilization for this disorder is increasing
perhaps due to our ever-increasing epidemic of obesity.

Diagnostic Role and Clinical Association of ASCA and ANCA in Brazilian Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Conclusions The results evidenced that low sensitivity of ASCA and pANCA markers limits their use in IBD screening in the general population;
however, their specificity may contribute to differentiation between CD and UC in IBD patients. Our study lends further support
to the suggestion that serologic assessment identifies different subtypes of IBD.

period.

Conclusions The outcome of antiviral combination therapy for HCV reinfection after OLT can be best predicted by week-24 virologic response.

Conclusions This randomized controlled pilot study is the first in vivo study evaluating cyclosporine versus tacrolimus in liver transplant
recipients undergoing antiviral therapy. Change from tacrolimus to cyclosporine led to a modest HCV RNA drop and appeared
to enhance the antiviral response of PEG/RBV. A larger randomized study is necessary to see if cyclosporine offers any advantage
over tacrolimus.
