"Pain is one piece of a complex jigsaw puzzle" - experiences of raising a child with cerebral palsy who has pain
Conclusion: Parents of children with CP experience pain as one aspect of a bigger picture. They need help and support to cope with their child's pain, and professional helpers need to address the complexity pain is a part of.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONParents of children with cerebral palsy (CP) experience their child's pain as one piece in a jigsaw puzzle, and counseling needs to address the complexity rather than the separate parts of the picture.Health professionals should support parents in evaluation and management of their child's pain, as a feeling of competence in pain management is important to reduce parental...

Rehabilitation professionals should rethink, realign, and apply existing models because of the lack of primary healthcare integration directives.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe integration of rehabilitation services in low-resourced and remote settings can be improved by involving community health workers and community rehabilitation workers in transdisciplinary teams.Peer support workers and community health workers can improve rehabilitation outco...

Cross-cultural adaptation, reliability, and validity of the Sinhala version of the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool: an instrument for measuring chronic ankle instability in Sri Lanka
CONCLUSIONS: The clinicians and researchers in Sri Lanka can use the CAIT-Sin for assessing and measuring CAI because its validity and reliability are confirmed.Implications for RehabilitationFunctional ankle instability is an ongoing chronic condition which presents for rehabilitation therapist.Outcome measurements are crucial in the rehabilitation of ankle sprains and it is important to administer these subjective outcome measures in their native language. The CAIT-Sin was found to have high internal consistency and excellent test-retest reliability.PMID:38062669 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2288938 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

The experiences and needs of people with dysvascular lower extremity amputations: a qualitative systematic review and meta-synthesis
CONCLUSIONS: Having dysvascular lower extremity amputations is a complicated experience as not only was the pre-amputation pain relieved, but a new set of physical, emotional and social challenges would surface after the amputation. These synthesised findings serve as a platform to explore the factors behind the various experiences faced by these people and how healthcare professionals can help them in their adjustment.PMID:38062867 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2291552 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Effects of aerobic exercise on balance and mobility in individuals with visual impairment: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Engaging in aerobic exercise 3-6 times per week, with each session lasting between 30 and 60 min, and continuing for a cycle of 8-16 weeks has been shown to enhance both dynamic and static balance in individuals with visual impairments.PMID:38059361 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2288931 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

"I will try anything" the experience of working age stroke survivors living with chronic post-stroke pain: an interpretative phenomenological analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest the need for further education on post-stroke pain for healthcare professionals, the consideration of pain in post-stroke assessments, the need for clear differential pain diagnoses and the provision of accurate information to patients. Research is needed to establish non-pharmacological evidence-based treatment approaches, such as pain management programmes, peer support and psychological interventions.PMID:38059370 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2288688 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

ICF classification of therapeutic goals for outpatient episodes of neurorehabilitation in post-stroke and Parkinson disease
CONCLUSIONS: While the majority of therapeutic goals were classified into the Activity and Participation component, less than 1% of goals measured direct activity performance in daily life. If people seek outpatient rehabilitation to improve functioning in their real-world environment, therapeutic goal setting should reflect this.PMID:38059563 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2290201 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)
