Challenges in Diagnosing and Treating Subperiosteal Orbital Hematoma Secondary to Sinusitis: A Case
Ear Nose Throat J. 2024 Apr 18:1455613241247764. doi: 10.1177/01455613241247764. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSubperiosteal orbital hematoma secondary to sinusitis is rare. Thus far, 19 cases of this disease have been reported, of which none involved postoperative skin anesthesia in the region innervated by the supraorbital nerve. In this article, for the first time we report a case of subperiosteal orbital hematoma secondary to sinusitis with skin anesthesia in the area innervated by the supraorbital nerve after surgery.PMID:38634313 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241247764 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

Endoscopic Broad Palisade Cartilage Graft Without Raising a Tympanomeatal Flap in the Repair of Subtotal Perforation
Conclusions: In the repair of subtotal perforation, an endoscopic broad palisade cartilage graft, performed without raising a tympanomeatal flap, is simple and feasible, resulting in a high graft success rate and good hearing restoration.PMID:38634317 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241249030 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

Solitary Isolated Oropharyngeal Neurofibroma Presenting With Dysphagia in the Setting of Von Recklinghausen's Disease
Ear Nose Throat J. 2024 Apr 18:1455613241249022. doi: 10.1177/01455613241249022. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 24-year-old man with von Recklinghausen's disease presented with complaints of difficulty in swallowing for 6 months and change of voice for 3 months. He also had recent-onset difficulty in breathing. Telelaryngoscopy and subsequent contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan revealed a well-defined, smooth submucosal mass in the oropharynx (attached to the posterior pharyngeal wall, superior to the level of left aryepiglottic fold), obscuring the ipsilateral pyriform fossa, and nearly blocking the pharyngeal lum...

Solitary Bone Plasmacytoma of the Skull Base With an Unusual Presentation
We present the case of a 61-year-old man with an unusual presentation of hoarseness secondary to vocal fold palsy. Imaging showed a large bony lesion in the temporo-occipital region with involvement of the jugular foramen. Further detailed diagnostic procedures confirmed SBP of the skull base. Radiotherapy was given with an uneventful recovery of vocal fold function. Skull base plasmacytoma can be considered as a differential diagnosis of causes of unilateral vocal fold palsy. Early therapeutic management may improve vocal fold function.PMID:38634321 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241249039 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

Ethmoid Osteoblastoma: A Case Report and Pooled Analysis of Cases
We present a case of osteoblastoma in a 13-year-old boy affecting the ethmoid sinus, which manifested as exophthalmos. A computed tomography scan revealed an expansive lesion in the right ethmoid sinus, causing compression and displacement of the orbital contents to the right. The lesion exhibited a mix of ground glass opacity and dense bone. On magnetic resonance imaging, the less dense areas of the tumor showed strong enhancement, while the densely sclerotic regions appeared as signal voids on all imaging sequences. A combined transorbital and transnasal approach was performed to remove the tumor. Histologically, the tum...

Investigation of Parotid Cancer Cases Diagnosed as Bell's Palsy at Initial Presentation: The 23 Year Experience of a Single Institution
Conclusion: Patients with parotid carcinoma who present with facial nerve paralysis at the initial visit have a significantly poorer prognosis. The number of cases in the pretreatment group can be reduced by performing a detailed examination, which can potentially improve the prognosis.PMID:38616554 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241240935 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

A Case of a Eustachian Tube Hairy Polyp Misdiagnosed as an Adenoid Residual in a Child
This article discusses a 12-year-old female who had a growth at the Eustachian tube's entrance on the left side of the nasopharyngeal wall, as identified by a computed tomography scan of the neck soft tissue; it was suspected to be a hairy polyp originating from the left Eustachian tube. The diagnosis of a hairy polyp was confirmed through pathology. The hairy polyp at the Eustachian tube, in this case, showed an irregular form with a wide base, making it look similar to an adenoid; thus, increasing the risk of it being misdiagnosed as residual adenoid tissue.PMID:38605528 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241244667 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

Graft Healing Process Following Cartilage Myringoplasty Without Trimming of the Perforation Margin
Conclusions: The graft healing process experienced the dilation of the blood vessels of the remnant TM, graft clinical inosculation, and neovascularization following cartilage myringoplasty without trimming of the perforation margin and EAC packing; however, the graft success rate was not related to the endoscopic graft neovascularization scores.PMID:38605550 | DOI:10.1177/01455613241245210 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)
