Impact of baseline left ventricular ejection fraction on outcome after transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation in patients with and without low ‐gradient aortic stenosis
ConclusionsModerately/severely abnormal LVEF ( ≤40%) at baseline is associated with increased mortality after TF‐TAVI, especially when the mean transvalvular aortic gradient is<40  mm Hg (LGAS), while outcomes in patients with normal and mildly abnormal LVEF are comparable regardless of the pressure gradient across the native aortic valve. Is the longitudinal deformation of the left ventricle affected by vitamin D deficiency in nondiabetics? A 2D speckle ‐tracking echocardiographic study
ConclusionsThe global longitudinal subendocardial deformations of the LV, including the systolic strain rate and the systolic and diastolic strain rates, as evaluated with 2D speckle ‐tracking echocardiography were not statistically significantly correlated with the presence or absence of vitamin D deficiency. Has carotid intima ‐media thickness prognostic impact in patients with high cardiovascular risk? A long‐term cohort study
ConclusionsPatients with higher CIMT have worst outcome, but this was mainly driven by age and gender. CIMT is useful as a prognostic marker in specific subsets of patients. (Source: Echocardiography)

Trends in use of echocardiography in hospitalized patients with syncope
ConclusionsThe admission rates for syncope are decreasing and use of echocardiography in hospitalized patients with syncope is appropriately low. Given the lack of any favorable impact on mortality and the association with increased costs, there is a continued need to emphasize evidence ‐based use of echocardiography in patients presenting with syncope. Teamwork using strain imaging in the echocardiographic assessment of right ventricular systolic function: A cardiac magnetic resonance imaging correlation study
ConclusionsThe RV strain parameters showed moderate correlations with CMR ‐derived RVEF and appropriately influenced echocardiographic interpretation of RV systolic function. “Wisdom of the crowd” applied by averaging echocardiographic assessments of RV systolic function across teams of echocardiography readers, further improved echocardiographic assessment of RV sy stolic function. Double ‐chambered left ventricle: A rare case in a child
Double ‐chambered left ventricle (DCLV) is an extremely rare congenital heart disease. In this condition, the left ventricle is divided into two chambers by a septum or muscle fiber with abnormal proliferation. A symptomatic boy was diagnosed with DCLV at our hospital. The patient was admitted with the m ajor complaint of 8 years of cardiac murmur, which was discovered through physical examination, and 5 years of palpitations and shortness of breath. He has been followed up without treatment. (Source: Echocardiography)

Impact of appropriate use criteria for transesophageal echocardiograms on clinically meaningful care
ConclusionIdeally, the role of a diagnostic cardiovascular imaging test, such as a TEE, is to influence clinical care, if it is ordered appropriately on the right patient. While the AUC guides clinicians on the appropriate use of cardiovascular imaging, it is broadly written and offers room for interpretation to encompass variety of clinical scenarios. Clinical care paths that utilize AUC and standardize use of multidisciplinary institutional resources offer opportunity for optimal clinical impact and patient care. (Source: Echocardiography)

The presbycardia phenotype: Cardiac remodeling and valvular degeneration in nonagenarians
ConclusionsHerein, we provide the first comprehensive echocardiographic description of ‘presbycardia'; concentric LVH, asymmetric septal hypertrophy, mitral and aortic valve calcification, and increased epicardial fat thickness. This pattern of findings may be increasingly seen as the population ages. (Source: Echocardiography)

Influence of mildly and moderately elevated pulmonary artery systolic pressure on post ‐renal transplantation survival and graft function
ConclusionMild and moderately elevated pre –kidney transplant PASP does not affect 4‐year post‐transplant mortality or graft loss. However, elevated pretransplant PASP is significantly associated with decreased 1 year and 2 years post‐transplant eGFR. Preoperative echocardiographic evaluation for PH may be useful in predicting the probability of short‐term renal graft and long‐term graft dysfunction in these patients. (Source: Echocardiography)

Three ‐dimensional echocardiography of mechanical circulatory support devices
Two ‐dimensional echocardiography is a crucial component for assessing the position and function of mechanical circulatory support devices, but three‐dimensional echocardiography provides additional information to aid in management and may improve accuracy in the assessment of these devices. In this article, we review the utility of three‐dimensional echocardiography of various mechanical circulatory support devices. (Source: Echocardiography)
