CONCLUSIONS: Qualitative, descriptive research provides a platform for men to share their experiences of the prostate cancer journey. Healthcare professionals should be alert to the factors which patients consider important during their treatment trajectory. These qualitative interviews provide much needed knowledge in relation to men's experience of the prostate cancer treatment trajectory. In a healthcare system which increasingly values the 'patients view' this type of information is vital in order to tailor healthcare services to meet the unique needs of each patient.

CONCLUSIONS: Subgroups of patients with different symptom experiences were identified. For some patients severity of all four symptoms persisted months after cancer treatment. Initial and ongoing assessment to identify those patients in the ALL HIGH patient subgroup is important so that appropriate interventions to improve functional status and quality of life can be offered.

CONCLUSION: The study illustrates that family caregivers play a vital role in the assessment of cancer symptoms, particularly in Turkey where contact with professional health carers may be limited after discharge, and argues for greater support and better education for carers in relation to all aspects of this caring role. However, family caregivers have greater difficulty in achieving high levels of accuracy on psychological as opposed to physical symptoms.

CONCLUSIONS: Distress, as experienced by patients and nurses, is positively correlated. We assume that such a relation holds beyond other individual, organisational, structural, and occupational influences that play decisive and limiting roles in the patient-nurse relationship. Reducing the distress of one of these parties could also positively affect the distress levels of the other party. Therefore, patient distress should be monitored since it may add to nurse distress. Types of patient interventions, as well as the people responsible for performing these interventions, must be discussed. On the other hand, intervention...

Breast cancer affects more than 1.2 million individuals each year. Because of advances in early detection and treatment, persons with breast cancer are living longer but remain at high risk for recurrence, even 20–30 years after diagnosis (). Recent observational studies suggest that regular physical activity (PA) may decrease breast cancer recurrence and mortality. This guest editorial will provide an update on this research, with implications for nurses. (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)

The aim of this study was to identify how many women experience CRE following radiotherapy and to investigate whe...

CONCLUSION: In newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, brief preoperative smoking intervention motivated smoking cessation. However, prolonged intervention, pre- and postoperatively, may more effectively support cessation in breast cancer patients and should therefore be evaluated in this patient population.

CONCLUSION: The knowledge and understanding of the study is that advanced prostate cancer affects men's lives: they are placed in a new life situation, against their will, and in their new situation they form a new life perspective. Healthcare professionals need to evaluate, perceive and furthermore understand the men's apprehensions and expectations, on an individual basis, for their future and empower them to formulate a new life perspective.

CONCLUSIONS: There were similarities and differences in perceptions of follow-up care procedures between the two focus groups. Patients placed importance on clinical examination in indicating disease recurrence, whereas health professionals viewed this as historical practice with no evidence base. Accurate information on how disease progression is monitored should be communicated to patients. A modified approach to follow-up procedures is suggested as a useful strategy to tailor services to individual needs and preferences, whilst responding to service demands.

Conclusion: The results of the study suggest that hopelessness levels in women with a mastectomy are low and their marital adjustment level at a medium level. However, some women with mastectomy, particularly those who feel hopelessness and have weak family relationships may need more support to cope with this experience.
